National Take Back Day

October 26, 2013

Tredyffrin Township Building

On Saturday, October 26, from 10 am to 2 pm, Tredyffrin Township and ARCH will provide residents with no cost anonymous collection of unwanted and expired medicines.  October 26, 2013, has been designated a National Take Back Day.  Bring your medications for disposal to Tredyffrin Township Building, 1100 DuPortail Rd in Chesterbrook. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Tredyffrin offers ongoing disposal option. Click on photo to read more.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts national Take Back events in the spring and fall.  Last fall, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. In its five previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2 million pounds (over a thousand tons) of pills.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines-flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash-both pose potential safety and health hazards

This event is open to the community.

Sincerely,

Your friends at ARCH

Stop Medicine Abuse
"Is your medicine cabinet a source for a teen's legal "high?" Because a doctor's prescription is not needed, many mistakenly believe that over-the-counter (OTC) medicines are safer than prescription medicines and illegal street drugs. They are in fact safe and effective when taken as directed, but even OTC medicines-including herbals-can cause serious and potentially fatal side effects when abused."
