On Wed., Sept. 18, 2013 (9-10:15am), ARCH invites parents and caregivers to attend a discussion covering...  

  • our teens' social lives
  • from middle school through high school
  • tipping the odds in favor of good decisions and outcomes

Everyone is welcome. Parents of younger kids, this is an opportunity to hear what may be ahead. Parents of older kids, you may want to share what you've experienced. This is a casual meeting. There is no obligation to talk. Our goal is to share ideas.

Speaker Bio... Kenneth Ginsburg, M.D., M.S.Ed, is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at CHOP and a Professor of Pediatrics at Penn Medicine. He's passionate about building on the strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience.  Ginsburg co-authored

"Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings," and "Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens."  He has been published more than 100 times and has appeared on CNN, NPR, The Today Show, The CBS Morning Show and ABC, NBC, and CBS Nightly News programs.

Some children may try alcohol as early as 9 years old.

The chance that your child will use alcohol increases as they get older.

When children worry about things like grades, fitting in, and physical appearance, they may use alcohol as a way to escape their problems.

 

"Talk. They hear you." is a national campaign that was created by SAMHSA, The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration. The campaign aims to engage parents and caregivers of children ages 9 to 15 in the prevention of underage drinking
