The Jefferson Parish School Board held its regular monthly
Board Meeting on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in the JPPSS Administration Building, 501 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey.

The Board reserves a time during its meetings to hear comments from the public on items not on the agenda, provided that people wishing to address the Board have signed up prior to the start of the meeting.

REPORT FROM JULY 7 JPSB MEETING
Presentations
Received information without the necessity of taking formal action
  • Jefferson Financial Credit Union
    • Discussed services offered by the credit union
    • Discussed possibilities for partnerships on scholarships and student financial literacy
 
Second Readings
Discussed proposals made by Board Members previously and took action as indicated
  • Declare Rillieux School site as surplus property
    • Deferred on a 6-2 vote the proposal until the August JPSB meeting
    • Delay allows vetting through the Facilities Committee, which plans to meet on July 21st
    • Building closed in 2012
    • Staff reported ample space exists in area schools to handle 20-year enrollment projections without reopening the campus
    • One Board member argued for retaining the site for possible future use
    • Staff reported concerns about the cost of maintaining vacant property without a foreseeable benefit or use
  • Move August 2, 2016, JPSB Meeting to August 3
    • Approved the change unanimously
    • Due to conflict with fund-raising event for school dictionaries
  • Plaisance vs JPSB lawsuit settlement
    • Deferred to Executive Session

  • First Readings
    • Received proposals from Board Members for formal consideration on or after next Board meeting
      • Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy
        • Regarding use of part of Loyola Tract for a school building funded via non-JPSB monies
      • Superintendent's annual evaluation
      • Financial Literacy curriculum 
  • Other Business
    • Approved the services of Elton Lagasse, Ronald Ceruti and Marge Zeno to serve as a committee to interview all applicants for the position of Principal at L.W. Higgins High School and for the position of Chief Human Resources Officer
      • $75.00 per hour
    • Avoids conflict of interests involving the Superintendent and relatives applying for the positions
    • The Board voted to approve the action with respect to the Principal position
    • The Board voted to refer the current interim Chief Human Resources Officer to the committee for vetting
 
Public Comment on Non-Agenda Items
  • Citizens who sign up prior to the start of the meeting will be called to speak.
    • There were none at this meeting
