The Orleans Parish School Board held its monthly Board Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at McDonogh 35 Auditorium, 4000 Cadillac Street.
The full posted agenda with back-up documentation is available online here. OPSB has summarized the meeting's activities below and provided links to key back-up documentation. OPSB meetings are archived here.
Note: Recent OPSB practice has been to hold public hearings on policy matters after the Board's Policy Committee receives proposed policy changes for Second Reading and before adoption is considered at Board Business Meetings. Such a practice was a worthy extra effort to obtain public comment, but it was required neither by State Law nor current OPSB Policy. However, during the recent extensive review and revision of all OPSB policies, few, if any, proposed policies generated public comment, and persons commenting during the public hearings usually repeated their same comments during the subsequent Board Business Meeting later in the evening. Hence, OPSBrief has learned that the public hearings on policy matters are not now being scheduled, but that the general public still has a minimum of three opportunities to comment on policies:
- During the 30-day lay-over period for public comment after First Readings at the Board Policy Committee meetings;
- When the Board Policy Committee considers policies up for Second Readings; and
- Prior to the Board's vote on each policy issue at Board Business meetings.
