Superintendent's Presentation
Reported progress since Hurricane Katrina
Reported good start to the new school session
Presented a performance by the KIPP Central City Academy Drumline
Established to address chronically absent students and those returning to school from adjudication/detention settings
Two persons spoke to say that absenteeism was caused or aggravated by long and early bus rides to school
RSD response was that YOC addresses those students who are chronically absent due to student and family physical and mental health needs, severe behavioral problems, suspensions and expulsions, and juvenile justice system involvement
New Orleans Therapeutic Day Program (NOTDP)
Received, reviewed and discussed staff report
Joint effort among RSD. OPSB and Tulane University
Established to address PTSD due to violence and tragedy, serious emotional disturbance, or emotional disability that cannot be met by traditional schools
One former teacher complained that NOTDP staff members would be more effective if they were from the community and knew the students
