The Orleans Parish School Board held its monthly
Board Business Meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in the Mack Spears Auditorium of the McDonogh 35 High School, 1331 Kerlerec Street.

    • NOFD Chief Timothy McConnell spoke about the program
    • Eight local residents, including several children, died in fires since November
    • Most fire deaths from smoke inhalation, not from being burned
    • Passive smoke detectors offer best way to save lives once fire starts
    • NOFD working to get free 10-yr smoke detectors in every NO home
    • NOFD working with all OPSB, RSD and non-public schools to explain program to students
      • Provides for families to develop escape plans in the event of fire
      • Teaches students how to check for working fire alarms
