Board Business Meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in the Mack Spears Auditorium of the McDonogh 35 High School, 1331 Kerlerec Street.

Presentations and Information Items
Received reports from staff, publicized events and recognized accomplishments with no further action being needed at this time
- NOFD Chief Timothy McConnell spoke about the program
- Eight local residents, including several children, died in fires since November
- Most fire deaths from smoke inhalation, not from being burned
- Passive smoke detectors offer best way to save lives once fire starts
- NOFD working to get free 10-yr smoke detectors in every NO home
- NOFD working with all OPSB, RSD and non-public schools to explain program to students
- Provides for families to develop escape plans in the event of fire
- Teaches students how to check for working fire alarms
- Provides assistance to install working fire alarms
- Students of the Year Awards
- Cash awards (privately donated) to be given to students at end of school year

- Adopted the resolution by a 5-2-0-0 vote
- Three members of the public spoke in favor of the resolution
- Two OPSB members gave reasons in support
- Badly needed locally to prevent teen pregnancies and STDs
- Ignorance has a high cost
- N.O. needs it more than many other parishes
