The Orleans Parish School Board held its regular Board Business Meeting, including its annual election of President and Vice-President, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in the Auditorium of the McDonogh 35 High School, 1331 Kerlerec Street.

  • Property Purchases
    • Warren Easton HS campus expansion
      • Received report from Administration
      • Approved the collaboration with Warren Easton Charter Foundation for the purchase
      • Owned by 3125 Canal LLC (per Assessor's website) - 2nd Municipal District - Square 422
      • Superintendent reported that the latest appraisal for the property is between $ 1.6 and 1.7 million
    • Booker T. Washington HS campus expansion
      • Deleted from the agenda per recommendation of Superintendent
      • After consultation with RSD, Superintendent concluded other options were better
      • District will pursue alternate site on other side of campus via exchange with HANO
Executive Session
Recessed into Executive Session to discuss pending litigation and reconvened in Open Session to take the actions as indicated
    • Insurance litigation - related to Hurricane Katrina wind damage
      • Approved General Counsel's recommendation to reject intervenors' settlement proposal
    • Employee litigation - related to post-Katrina layoffs
      • No action taken - status report only
    • Expropriation litigation - related to State expropriating McDonogh 11 property
      • Waived potential conflict of interest from merger of State's legal firm with OPSB's workers' compensation lawyers
