Greetings!
The Orleans Parish School Board held a ceremony to inaugurate its recently elected members on Monday, January 14, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the Edward Hynes Charter School, 990 Harrison Avenue.
The OPSB members who were elected for new four-year terms are as follows:
- Ira Thomas, District 1
- Cynthia Cade, District 2
- Sarah Usdin, District 3
- Leslie Ellison, District 4
- Seth Bloom, District 5
- Woody Koppel, District 6
- Nolan Marshall, Jr., District 7
After the ceremony, the Board convened into a Business Meeting. The full agenda with back-up documentation can be found here.
It is anticipated that the Monthly Committee Meetings, scheduled for Thursday, January 17, and the Business Meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, will not be held. If anything changes, another OPSBrief will be issued to keep readers informed.

- Election of Board President and Vice-President
- Elected Ira Thomas as President unanimously
- Elected Leslie Ellison as Vice-President unanimously
- Recognition of Armed Forces
- Received and recognized representatives of the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard in a ceremony
- Board President Thomas read a statement of acknowledgement and gratitude for the men and women of the U. S. Armed Forces
- Board General Counsel read a Proclamation from the Board honoring the military
- Routine resolution authorizing Board President to sign contracts and other documents, and Vice-President to do same in President's absence
- Approved Resolution 01-13
- Change in special legal representation for certain complex litigation due to change in law firms by OPSB's lead counsel
- Approved Resolution 02-13
- Request by Einstein Charter School to increase its enrollment and to add a second site
