Greetings!

The Orleans Parish School Board held an auction for seven surplus properties on Thursday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m. The auction was held at its offices at 3520 General de Gaulle Drive.

The event was relatively well-attended. Six of the seven properties were sold, realizing a total of $2,832,000. Sales are pending OPSB approval at its next meeting.

The goals of the auction were to place idle properties back into use and/or commerce and to generate additional capital funds.

According to OPSB Policy D415, Sale of Buildings and Land, "Revenues derived from the sale of any school site, building, facility, or other immovable property shall be deposited in a specially designated Capital Improvements Fund for the acquisition, design, renovation, repair, construction, furnishing, or equipping of school board property." During the implementation of the Master Plan, OPSB has usually budgeted revenues from property sales for the acquisition of new school sites when necessary for some of the new Master Plan schools.

The properties offered at the auction were as follows:

  • New Orleans Free School - 3601 Camp Street - Sold for $1,200,000
  • Pierre Capdau School - 3821 Franklin Avenue - Sold for $612,000
  • Morris F. X. Jeff School - 800 N. Rendon Street - Sold for $920,000
  • Timbers 1 & 2 Office Buildings - 3500 & 3510 General de Gaulle Drive - Did not sell
  • Algiers Bus Garage - 801 Patterson Drive - Sold for $75,000
  • Former Seabrook Center Site - 2717 Athis Street - Sold for $5,000
