The Orleans Public School Board held its Monthly Business Meeting on Tuesday, October 16, in the Auditorium of McDonogh 35 HS. The Meeting was preceded by a Public Hearing on proposed policy changes. Agendas and background materials can be read here.

PUBLIC HEARING

OPSB reviewed the following proposed amendments to existing OPSB policies and invited public comment, of which there was none:

  • Amended Policy E522 - Computer and Internet Use for Employees
  • Amended Policy I809 - Computer Access and Use Students

The effect of the proposed amendments is to clarify that the policies also cover cellular use.

  • Premier Stay-In-School Program Annual Car Giveaway RE: Perfect Attendance
    • Scion of New Orleans will award a 2013 Scion to a randomly selected senior with perfect attendance for the school year
    • This is the 6th year of the program to encourage commitment to one's work
    • Information will be available at each high school

    • Elementary - Rebecca Brown of Hynes Charter School
    • Middle - Sandy Rockwell of Hynes Charter School
  • Edward Hynes Facility Design
    • New Hynes School was named a "Project of Distinction - Outstanding Design - Architecture in Education" for the Education Design Showcase 12 in the June 2012 issue of School Planning & Management
    • This item will be brought up again when the Architects, Imre Hegedus and Associated Architects, can attend
  • Bullying Prevention Month - October
    • Annual contest for anti-bullying videos open to students in OPSB and RSD charter and direct-run schools
    • Videos of 30 seconds to 5 minutes are due November 30
    • Award showing will be December 8
