Lewis & Clark Trail sign Greetings!

Greetings from the Lewis & Clark Trail!  It's not often that I can post a newsletter from the road, and I'm delighted to be able to highlight one of our signature programs that is experiencing a resurgence.  We received half a dozen calls on this one after the deadline (one just a week before departure) which bodes well for the possibility of offering it again in 2014.  Like to learn more?  Check out our daily postings on Facebook.

Only ten seats left on the popular Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup program (Sept. 25-30).  This TAP Guaranteed Departure includes the rare Old West tradition of rounding up over 1,200 pre-historic beasts during this annual event.  Highlights include unpack once, the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse memorials, Kevin Costner's Tatanka, Badlands National Park, Historic Deadwood, and much more. Reserve your place today!

A lot goes on behind the scenes here at Shebby Lee Tours that may not be apparent from our tour listings.  Summer is prime season for writing proposals for custom groups, and an opportunity for me to stretch my design muscles.  In the past few weeks I have designed three outside-the-classroom programs in Arizona and New Mexico for a private school, two different combined North and South Dakota programs, and a 12-day exploration of the great Southwest for the winter months.  Although most of this custom work has very specific time frames and inclusions, the best of them have a way of showing up on our tour schedule sooner or later.  Watch for new tour ideas coming to your mailbox soon!

ABA Insider North Dakota postcard

In case you missed it, my latest column for ABA's online Insider explores the affects of the ongoing Bakken Oil Field discovery in western North Dakota on tourism in the region. The economic impact is evident throughout the state, but the resulting shortage of hotel rooms, closures of top tourist attractions for renovations, and general overcrowding are producing unexpected results.  Read more:
