         Brewery News
"The hungry piggy may have gone to the market, but the thirsty one headed Off Market.  That's the name of the newest culinary venture in Ventura: the Off Market Street Tasting Trail!" This tasting trail includes Plan B Wine Cellars (1) Panero Brothers Winery (2),  Surf Brewery (3), The Cave, (4), and Four Brix Winery (5)  and are all in a 1 1/2 mile radius of one another.  This trail launches on February 9th with a scavenger hunt from 12-5 PM. What a fabulous way to showcase the city's love affair with craft beer and also blend with our neighbors!

The All Grain Brewing class is being offered at Surf Brewery at noon on February 9th. This class is designed for those who want to brew using the all grain approach (as oppose to extract brewing) and focuses exclusively on the mashing process. Students are expected to have an understanding of the other brewing tasks, such as boil and fermentation. This class is perfect follow up to the Beginner class. The fee is $25 and includes a 10% off coupon in Surf's Homebrew shop. To sign up speak to the Homebrew attendant  or email Garrett directly at Garrett@ surfbrewery.com.

Surf Brewery will join Sylvia White Gallery, with tastings, on February 14th celebrating her Annual Be a Saint Valentine's Day Art and Auction Gala.

On February 23 Surf Brewery will join Ventura firefighters at the Ventura County Museum to benefit Ventura City Firefighters' Axillary. Surf brews and Panero Wines will be on hand throughout the night, from 6-10 PM.

February music brings us eclectic bluegrass band Cattawaillers on the 2nd.  On the 9th, a new band to Surf Brewery, Fall of the Domino, will perform top hits from the 80's and 90's. On the 16th Smokey and Friends will be back with their R&B tunes, and Sea Hunters Band will finish off the month with their Surf Music on February 23rd.

Beer History Fact:

1n 1516, William IV, Duke of Bavaria, adopted the 'Reinheitsgebot' (purity law), perhaps the oldest food-quality

regulation still in use through the 20th century, according to which the only allowed ingredients of beer are water, hops and barley-malt.

California Surfing History Fact:

The relationship between Southern  California's geography, and it's

post World War II,  generated cultural expressions not found in the rest of the country.  Among the most interesting is the rise of a uniquely Californian "surf culture".  California's geographical situation-facing the Pacific Ocean has made it, in many ways, uniquely responsive to the cultural impulses

of the Pacific rim.

       Happy Valentine's Day!
