VISA Newsletter

Its back to school time at VISA

We are excited to prepare for the fall semester that starts Tuesday, September 13. To mark the occasion we have installed a brand new sign in the front of VISA (designed with the help of Xane St Phillip and Nagy  Thomas at Speedpro Signs).

There is still time to sign up for a course. You can choose from a selection of drawing, painting or collage courses that still have some spaces left. Unfortunately the photography and sculpture courses are full with waiting lists at this point.

And for those of you who have schedules that are too full to commit to a weekly class, we have drawing and writing drop-in sessions that you could try out on an occasional basis. Draw by Drawing starts Thursday Sept 22, 7-9pm and takes place every week throughout the semester. The cost is $5 per session and all materials are included. Each week the faciliators present a different drawing project for participants to work on. The Drop-in Writing with Buffy Cram is on Monday nights and starts Sept 28, 7-8:30 and is $15 per session. No sign-up is necessary for either of these drop-in sessions. Just show up and free your imagination for the evening. Both events take place at VISA. (Scroll down newsletter for more information on these sessions).

Or perhaps you might like to spend a Sunday afternoon making art in one of our all-supplies-included workshops. All of our workshops are suitable for people with no art experience, or for those with some art background who want to try new things. To find out more: Fall Workshops.

We also encourage you to drop by the school to visit our Slide Room Gallery. Currently there is a one-person exhibition by local artist Liam Lloyd. The gallery is packed to the brim with wonderful drawings and paintings that are definitely worth spending some time with. Gallery is open Monday to Friday, 9-5pm.

Look forward to seeing you at VISA very soon!

Also happening tonight!

Deluge: Toroidal Yodel, work by Mowry Baden

Opening: Friday September 9, 7pm

In this tactile exhibition Baden showcases sculptural works which forcefully expel noticeable but invisible 'donuts' of air at people interacting with it. The number, direction and velocity of these air 'donuts' can be controlled via computer. This technology provides the artist endless opportunities for experimentation.
