Make some art this summer
The summer always seems to go by too fast, however one way to slow down time is to make art. Making art is also a great way to keep track of time because a finished drawing or painting gives you physical evidence of how time was spent.
We have a great range of workshops from now until the end of August. You will find everything from a one-day Abstract Drawing workshop this Sunday (July 24), to a three-day Block Printing, Stencilling & Monoprinting with Natural Dyes (image right) taught by Janna Marie Vallee who comes to us all the way from New York City. Other shorter workshops to consider are Expressive Plant Drawing, Mixed Media: Creating Backgrounds or the Contemporary Botanical.
If you take a weeklong workshop you will get the second one for 50% off. Consider taking one with a friend or parent! Three excellent weeklong workshops to consider (and only offered at VISA): Oil Painting Intensive (Neil is a fantastic instructor and also a great oil painter: Neil McClelland); Painting with Gouache with Kate Scoones; or how about entering the world of contemporary embroidery and trying your hand at this unique and unusual workshop offered by Conne Morey: Blackwork/Scarletwork? | | If you don't have time or energy to take an art workshop, perhaps you'd like to attend one of our upcoming Artist Talks (scroll down for more information about each of these talks). The first is Friday July 22 at 7pm by Cat Spencer who recently spent three months in the Kreye Studio Residency program. Cat will discuss the project she has been working on which investigates the relationship between colour and smell.
The following Friday, July 29 at 8pm, Jack Southern will be speaking about his latest research into contemporary drawing with a focus on artists from the UK and discuss his new book project. Jack is co-author of a book called Drawing Projects. Lecture is suggested donation of $10.
And then on Friday, August 12, Sarah Cowan (VISA alumna) will present an informative talk on her recent experience of a three-month residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland. Sarah will discuss the work she made as well as provide information on the residency itself for those of you who might like to participate in the future.
However if you want to take a break from art this summer but are ready to start thinking about the fall semester here is a list of our upcoming offerings: Fall 2016 Courses.
