Happy Holidays to all our friends and fans

Thank you to everybody who supported the Vancouver Island School of Art by taking courses and workshops; attending artist talks and Slide Room Gallery openings; and with your tax deductible donations.

I have especially appreciated all the positive feedback I have received about my weekly musings on Contemporary Art in the newsletter. Thank you for your comments and I look forward to keeping you posted on more art and ideas in the new year.

In these busy and uncertain times, people need art more than ever so it is with great excitement that we look forward to starting a new year at VISA.

As you can see from our course and workshop schedules we have a great range of offerings for both the beginning student and more experienced artist. We are also continuing with our Artist Talk Series, starting with Sara Robichaud on Wednesday, Jan 29. And new this year, we will be starting a monthly Art Movie Night with the documentary on Gerhard Richter on Friday, Feb 7.

Have a wonderful holiday and hope to see you at VISA in 2014!

Last chance for a 2013 Tax Donation

If you are wondering what organization might be worthy of a 2013 Tax Donation, may I suggest  you consider VISA. We are very proud of how we have changed so many lives by giving meaning and fulfillment to individuals through our art courses and workshops. Next year is our 10th Anniversary so this is an excellent time to support contemporary art in Victoria.

We are happy to receive any amount: $25, $100, $500, whatever you can afford. We receive no government subsidies and are 100% funded by tuition, so all donations help towards the excellent programming and public events offered by VISA.

15% DISCOUNT ON CREATIVE WRITING COURSE

To promote the development of our writing program, we are offering a special discount on our 12-week Creative Writing course.
This course introduces beginning writers to poetry, creative non-fiction and fiction. Students will learn to develop plot, structure scenes and evoke theme and mood through descriptive language. Exemplary writing in all three genres will be examined in order to discover what makes them work, and students will learn to 'read like a writer,' a skill that will guide their writing now and in the future. Weekly lessons will focus on genre specific concerns, however, most of the emphasis will be on creating work during in-class exercises.
