VISA Vancouver Galleries Field Trip

We have six spaces left in our VISA Vancouver Galleries Field Trip due to last minute cancellations. This is free to VISA students and $20 for all others.

The trip involves taking the 9am ferry to Vancouver and the 7pm ferry back. We use public transit to go to the Vancouver Art Gallery, Contemporary Art Gallery and the commercial galleries in the Brewery Creek District (near Main St and !st Ave).

Costs include ferry $13.50 x 2, transit daypass $9.75, discounted Vancouver Art Gallery entry fee $5, lunch and snack money and $20 tour fee for non-VISA students.

University of Gloucestershire Info Session
with Jack Southern

This information session would be of interest to anybody who is interested in completing a Bachelor in Fine Art or Master of Fine Arts degree in the UK.

VISA has an articulation agreement with the University of Gloucestershire in the UK (2 hours from London), where upon completion of a three-year diploma at VISA, you could go to the Univiersity of Gloucesterhire and complete a BA in Fine Art in 8 months. Jack Southern, Fine Art Course Leader will speak about the art program at the University of Gloucestershire. Jack will address questions about both the Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degree programs. 

Jack Southern's creative work spans teaching, research, writing, curatorial practice, as well as his work as an independent artist. Within his own art practice, Southern works in a range of media including drawing, sculpture/installation, moving image, photography and web works. While working on numerous funded collaborations over the last 10 years, Jack's work has been exhibited extensively nationally and internationally.

In recent years Southern has also managed large-scale collaborative projects which have culminated in published works including, Guardian Guide to Drawing, (Guardian newspaper, 2009), and more recently as co-author of Drawing Projects: An Exploration Of The Language Of Drawing, Southern is currently orgainising and managing a diverse Drawing based project which will culminate in an exhibition and series of discussions/talks at the Drawing Room, London in January / February 2014.

We have some new offerings including Short Fiction, Creative Writing (now is 12 weeks), Painting: Nature as SourcePainting: Ambiguous Abstraction, Drawing: The Body as Source, Oil Painting and Drawing for the Absolute Beginner.

There are also a lot of the old favourites on offer: Understanding Colour I, Drawing I (taught by Xane St Phillip) and Painting I, Photography II, Art History and Critical Studies.
