Keep "Christ" in Your Christmas
This time of year, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season--shopping, holiday parties, fighting for a parking space at the mall, so we can find that perfect gift and...more shopping. Keeping our focus on the true reason we celebrate Christmas, the birth of our Savior, gives us a deeper, more meaningful perspective on the season. In honor of Christmas and Jesus' birth, we would like to share a special poem by M.S. Loundes: Don't Forget Jesus Christmas is a special time To reflect on Jesus Christ, The wonder of His lowly birth Brings meaning to our lives
There really is no other reason, We celebrate this day, The birth of God's precious son And the life, He willingly gave
But so much seems to distract us In the busy-ness of our lives, We lose our focus in all the happenings, Not knowing, we leave out Christ
We lose sight of the true meaning As we endlessly rush about Trying to find that perfect gift, Seems to cloud our Saviour out
We need to stop and reflect awhile Remembering our precious Lord, His birth, His life and sacrifice And all that He stands for
For though the world may celebrate, It seems though for other reasons, Let's keep in mind that Jesus Christ Is the true meaning of the season.

Cream Cheese Spritz Cookies
This delicious treat, compliments of CM at Cooks.com, is a
tasty way to finish a meal or pretty enough to be wrapped up and given as a gift.
Total recipe makes about four dozen cookies.
Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
1-1/4 cups sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. pure almond extract
1/2 tsp. butter flavoring (optional)
1 tbsp. butterscotch schnapps (substitute butterscotch syrup or add caramel extract to taste)
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Cream together butter and cream cheese; add sugar.
Cream mixture until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolk, beat well; stir in flavorings.
On low speed, gradually add flour and salt.
Cookie dough will be soft and somewhat sticky; adjust consistency if dough seems too sticky, adding a tablespoon of flour at a time; if dough seems too stiff for a cookie press, add a tablespoon of milk at a time.
Shape dough into 3-inch balls and drop into the barrel of a cookie press. Push dough in to eliminate spaces. Press cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with colored sugars or color dough with a few drops of red or green food coloring to make festively colored cookies.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Store in airtight container. Freeze if keeping for more than 2 weeks. |

Here's Mud In Your Eye!
'Twas the Day After Christmas
'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house, Every creature was hurting--even the mouse.
The toys were all broken, their batteries dead; Santa passed out, with some ice on his head.
Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while Upstairs the family continued to snore.
And I in my T-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans, Went into the kitchen and started to clean.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the curtains, and threw up the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a little white truck, with an oversized mirror.
The driver was smiling, so lively and grand; The patch on his jacket said "U.S. POSTMAN."
With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox Then quickly he stuffed them into our mailbox.
Bill after bill, after bill, they still came. Whistling and shouting he called them by name:
"Now Macy's, now Belk, now Penny's and Sears Here's Kohl's and Target's and Stein Mart's -- all here!!
To the tip or your limit, every store, every mall, Now chargeaway-chargeaway-chargeaway all!"
He whooped and he whistled as he finished his work. He filled up the box, and then turned with a jerk.
He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road, Driving much faster with just half a load.
Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer, "ENJOY WHAT YOU GOT ... YOU'LL BE PAYING ALL YEAR!"

 December Gardening Guide | |
Vegetable Seeds: Plant seeds of mustard, carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce and cabbage.
Fruits and Nuts: Plant young pecan and other deciduous fruit trees and grapes. Spray on dormant oil for scales.
Annuals and Perennials: Plant hardy annual seed now, like snapdragon, calendula, sweet peas, verbena and pansies.
Bulbs: Continue spring bulb planting.
Roses: Add plants to rose garden and mulch.
Shrubs: Delay planting now in case of freezing weather.
Lawns: Continue to control weeds like, chickweed, dandelion and wild garlic.
Miscellaneous: *Shrub trees and indoor plants make excellent gifts. How about a real Christmas tree that can be re-planted in your yard this year?
*Begin to plan out your garden for spring. Planting crops east to west allows you to plant tallest crops on the north end to prevent shading for shorter plans.
*Rotate vegetable crops each year to avoid increased chances for disease, organisms, insects and essential mineral imbalances.
*Moderately spread fireplace ash over your garden to increase soil pH levels.
The gardening guide is based upon the USDA hardiness zones for Alabama. The state zones are:

Birmingham area - 7b
South Alabama - 8a
Mobile area - 8b
