Duck Bay Lodge newsletter                    April 2016

It's almost spring...

Minnesota is having one of the earliest ice-outs ever, and it looks like we will too. This adds up to a very active fishing opener in mid-May. Don't forget our legendary northern pike fishing prior to the walleye opener - this is the time to look for that trophy northern, or fish the shallow bays for plenty of smaller fish if action is more to your liking. It's a perfect start to summer and lead-in to the walleye opener on May 21st!

As guests do need to change their dates from time-to-time, we will be posting all available openings on the Duck Bay blog. It's never too late to plan your trip! Check the blog frequently for updates.

Availability for May & June:
- anytime from May 18 - May 31 (2 cabins available)
- anytime from June 3 - 16 (1 cabin available)

There's a larger selection of available dates in July, August and September. To see all open dates right through to the end of the season, check our blog. If any of these interest you, please contact us.

At this time of year, plans are in full swing for the upcoming season. Meet our professional guiding staff below; next month we'll introduce those that handle all the details while you're out on the lake.  We're all excited to see you at Duck Bay!

Meet our guides...
Jimmy
Jimmy has been guiding for most of his adult life and is absolutely passionate about what he does. He gets more excited when his clients catch the "big one" than he does when he himself catches them.  As head guide at Duck Bay, he is an invaluable member of our team.

Bill
Another long-time guide, Bill lives on Lake of the Woods and has been guiding over 35 years. Ask anyone who has been to our part of the lake about Bill - he's probably guided them! You have to listen closely to him; he has a quiet sense of humor that makes the day a lot of fun for his guests.

Treavor
Treavor has been guiding part-time for Duck Bay for years, and is joining us full-time this summer.  A very highly "in-demand" guide on Lake of the Woods, we are excited he is joining our team of professional guides.  Originally from England, he has a charming accent and is getting married this upcoming fall.

Dan
Dan has been guiding on Lake of the Woods since he retired. He knows every inch of the lake, and when not guiding, brings his grandchildren to the lake to fish. At night you will find him in the recreation hall, kicking butt at the cribbage table.

Bryan
Our long-time guests will remember Bryan. He guided for us for 6 years while attending University. Since graduation, he's been working in the oil industry as an instrumentation technologist. This year he's taking two months off and will be guiding at Duck Bay. A paid vacation, right Bryan?

Rick
Rick retired early last winter after 30 years at Canada Post and began guiding at Duck Bay in the spring. He and his wife have owned a cottage on Lake of the Woods for over 5 years, so he has fished it extensively. They are planning to move to their cottage in Nestor Falls full time and enjoy his lifelong love of the outdoors.
Book now for the early season!  You'll never regret the quality time spent with friends and family.  Our perfect setting, terrific fishing, exceptional staff and first-class resort will have you wanting to return year after year.
