Spring has arrived...

The ice is out on Lake of the Woods and we're getting ready to move back to Duck Bay for the summer. Once there, everyone starts scurrying about getting things cleaned and ready.  It is always exciting anticipating the arrival of the first guests!

Last month we introduced you to 3 new staff;  below are several more. Along with the faces you already know - Heidi, Jimmy, Bill, Rob, Sean and Dan, we have a great team ready to take excellent care of you
!

And to get you excited about fishing, see the great picture at the bottom of the newsletter. Is that not the happiest looking fisherman EVER??

Meet three of our new staff...
Madelyn
I'm 18 and have moved to Winnipeg in the past year, from my home town of Altona, Manitoba. After taking a year off to work, I'll be heading to the University of Winnipeg in the fall for my first year of the psychiatric nursing program.

For the past 8 years I've been playing girls fastball, and have won gold at provincials in the last 2 years. For the past 3 summers I have filled my days in the sun at Fort Whyte Alive nature camp as a camp counselor.

In the last few years I have also enjoyed traveling to Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, New York, and have been skydiving twice.

I would have to say my beagle/border collie mix Mia would be my favorite thing I own. I'm now very excited to try something new and work at Duck Bay Lodge all summer!

Sam
Professional Guide
My name is Sam Dornian.  I am 22 years old and I am currently finishing my last semester at Mount Royal University in the Business Sport and Recreation program.

I have always enjoyed all sport and recreation activities; growing up I played hockey, baseball, football, and basketball.  However, fishing and being on, in, and around the water is what I have always been passionate about.  Growing up my favorite memories are sitting on the creek bank fishing with my Grandpa and cousins in southern Manitoba.

I look forward to a great summer surrounded by people who share my passion.  After this summer I plan to head down to Australia and work for the winter.

Can't wait to meet everyone.

Kiara
My name is Kiara De Kezel and I was born and raised in the small town of Deloraine, Manitoba. I went to the University of Wisconsin-Superior to play hockey and  am just graduating in May. I studied Education, French, and Health and am hoping to get into a University of Manitoba for Education in the fall.

I really love to play hockey and a other sports. In past summers I have worked as a lifeguard and am really looking forward to a new outdoor atmosphere. I have never fished before, but my grandpa loves to, so maybe I will pick it up this summer.

Last summer I went to Iceland with my mom and in March to Colorado. Those are the two furthest away places I have ever been. I have never been anywhere in Ontario, so I am excited to finally see my neighboring province!
