High water...

Have you noticed this too?  Lately, each summer seems to speed by even faster than the last one!
It was another interesting summer with Mother Nature - an unusually long winter with a slow start to spring. Next came the rains which caused flooding on the lake;  it was the highest water level since the flood of 1950. This picture taken at the Morson Marina tells the whole story!  By fall, water levels were back to normal.

Closing at the end of the season:  shutters and boats

  Shutters Boat storage

Two of the most time-consuming jobs at the end of the season are shuttering all of the windows and winterizing the boats.

Some good friends who have a cottage nearby come and help our staff with the shutters.  Above is Richard, Charlie and Tim who have a cottage on Turtle Lake. All that hard work for a couple of free beers!

The boats are stored for the winter at our parking area in Morson.  We pull them out, change the oil, check the batteries and add fuel stabilizer, then wrap each boat with tarps to keep the snow and rain out.

The trip home...

  Loading the plane

Our plane spends the winter at a float-plane base close to our home in Selkirk, Manitoba.  We load it with as much as it can carry for the one hour flight from Duck Bay Lodge. Once there, it is pulled from the river and stored in a field with many other planes until May.

The drive back to Selkirk takes a little longer, around three and a half hours.  We always have mixed emotions;  sad to leave the lake but glad to see family and friends at home.

Thanks to everyone that stayed with us this summer;  we sincerely appreciate you choosing to stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again.  Have a great winter!
