Deb Braga

Deb joined the Plus Incorporated team in December of 2015 as our Receptionist and has since moved into the position of Maintenance Billing Specialist.

She, her husband, and their morkie Grayson moved to Lyman, South Carolina in August of 2015 when her husband's position was transferred from Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She and her husband have two children, three step children, and three grandchildren, to whom Deb refers as "the joys of her life!"  Together they enjoy cruising, and now that they are a distance away, vacationing to visit family in Rhode Island.

Prior to moving, Deb had been employed with the Nelipak Corporation for 21 years as Business Support Specialist, performing customer service, reception, purchasing, and billing. Now in Greenville, Deb is enjoying the southern hospitality and warmer weather that South Carolina has to offer. She looks forward to working many more years with the friendly staff and customers at Plus Incorporated.

     This month we would like to highlight Make-A-Wish in Greenville, South Carolina. Plus Incorporated partners with the local chapter of Make-A-Wish in handling their copier.

     Make-A-Wish South Carolina grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish is the legacy of Chris Greicius, a 7-year-old boy from Phoenix who diagnosed with leukemia. More than anything else, he wished to be a police officer. Caring people in his community granted his wish,  and set in motion a phenomenon that would create an unprecedented kind of charity.

     In 1984, the South Carolina chapter was incorporated to serve the children and families of South Carolina. The first wish was granted to Louis who wished to "see a big time football game." The chapter serves all 46 counties in the state from their   Greenville headquarters. Make-A-Wish South Carolina serves children 2 ½ to 18 years of age. Medical eligibility is determined by each child's physician. In fiscal year 2015, the SC chapter granted 176 wishes - the most ever in the chapter's 30-year history. This year the chapter aims to reach even more as there are currently over 200 medically qualified children waiting for wishes in South Carolina. As its own 501c3, the South Carolina chapter is responsible for raising funds and granting wishes within its territory. It is completely funded from private donations.  Most support comes from individuals, companies, and special events such as golf tournaments and auctions. The average cost of a wish in South Carolina is $7,500.00 and the most popular wish is a trip to Walt Disney World Resorts. Other popular wishes include room redecorations, shopping sprees, and celebrity meetings.

     Globally, every 38 minutes Make-A-Wish grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. The organization believes that a wish experience can be a game-changer. This one belief guides them in everything they do. It inspires them to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids they serve.  It compels them to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives them to make donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of their vision to grant the wish of every eligible child.


How You Can Help
 
     Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved - wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.
 
There are many ways you can help Make-A-Wish grant the wishes of local children, including:
