How to avoid hackers by doing these 2 simple things

Hacking is becoming an all too common problem in businesses all over the world. With the increase in hacker activity, companies are making strides in investing in cyber security safeguards. However with the best systems installed, hackers can still have easy access to company's networks if employees themselves are not making the effort to practice security measures.

To be proactive against hackers, companies should make employees aware of two things to help avoid a security breach in their network. The first recommendation is to think before you click. That is the most significant habit that any employee should practice in an organization.
Humans are prone to errors when it comes to a company's security. Attacks that are successful are usually contributed to three things: user errors caused by lack of mindfulness, unauthorized use of online services and using social media sites in the work environment.

By doing this employees are clicking on links that could give hackers a way in. The most common way they are getting in is through the inbox. They can create fake emails with malicious files attached. This is a point of entry they are using to get in a company's network by deceiving a user.
Hackers have gotten better at masking malicious emails to make it look more legitimate. Employees need to be attentive and question every email that raises even the smallest amount of suspicion. Everyone should question themselves in why they are getting the email. What is the reason they are being asked to click on it. These are things to ask yourself before clicking on any link or downloading a file.

Another thing that employees should do to protect their company from hacks is to report any suspicious emails or attachments. Even after a file has been downloaded or link has been clicked. It is important to alert your company's IT department as soon as possible. This will help them identify the breach quickly and possibly contain it before hackers achieve their goal.
As always if you have questions regarding security measures to protect your company's network. Please contact our IT department and one of our representatives will be happy to help you.

Salvation Army of Spartanburg

Have you ever been cold and not had a coat, or maybe been hungry and had nothing to eat, or tired and no place to lay your head.   This is why The Salvation Army is here!

This month we are happy to highlight the Salvation Army of Spartanburg, SC. Plus Incorporated partners with the Salvation Army in handling their copier fleet.

Most families who come to The Salvation Army have been in these situations. The mission of The Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, meet human need, and serve others without discrimination. The Salvation Army offers several programs that support those people who are in need. These are the programs offered at The Salvation Army the social services program, the family store and the community center. The social services office assists families and individuals with emergency needs. On a monthly basis, the social services program assists between 287 to 300 individuals in need of assistance. The food pantry served 3,441 families in 2015 and looks for that number to be over 4,000 in 2016. There are several different ways that the social services office helps our clientele, such as food, clothing, and funds for utilities, medications, rent and mortgage. The social service office also provides furniture and household goods to those who may be victims of a house fire. Anyone needing help can come to the social services office are Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm.

Another program that The Salvation Army has is the Emergency Disaster services. This program began in the early 1900's, and since then The Salvation Army has developed local, regional and national disaster service programs. In North and South Carolina, The Salvation Army remains ready for any disaster that may occur. There are hundreds of Salvation Army personnel on call from over the region. Who are ready to deploy to provide emergency food, shelter, and spiritual council to victims of any disaster.

The community center, which is located at 40 Foster Street in Spartanburg and serves the at-risk youth of Una, Saxon and Arcadia communities. The community center houses the afterschool program and the sports program, which includes football, basketball, baseball and soccer. The community center offers character and team building programs at the facility. The Salvation Army offers activities that promote leadership, team building, and positive conflict resolutions that will help the members' abilities to deal with life's events. The fitness program promotes healthy and active lifestyles, with interactive activities that keep the students engaged and constantly moving. The fitness program also educates the children on how to choose healthy foods and gives instructional materials on how to prepare healthy snacks and meals for their families at home, helping the children to take the wellness and health lessons taught to them home to their families. The children served by these programs come from either single parent homes or families that are below the poverty level and cannot afford childcare or extra-curricular activities for their children. This makes The Salvation Army their safe haven, and as some say "home away from home".
One great way to help is a donation to The Salvation Army in the form of a scholarship; this helps at-risk youth whose parents cannot afford to pay the full price for the afterschool program. The afterschool program, cost starts at $40 dollars per week for first child, $30 dollars for the second child and 20 for the 3rd and any additional children. A donation of $160 will send a child to the afterschool program for a month, a donation of $1,000 dollars will send a child to the afterschool program for 6 months. These children come to The Salvation Army from diverse backgrounds and with very different needs, whether that be spiritual guidance, help with their academic subjects, or a physical outlet with the sports programs. All of the programs offered at the community center allow the at-risk youth to be involved in different activities, which allows them to feel like they are a part of something.

Volunteers are welcome to offer their services in any department of The Salvation Army, anywhere from the administrative offices to the family store and at the community center. All it takes to volunteer is a little bit of paperwork, a background check and the volunteer can help as much as they would like to serve. In the administrative offices, you may volunteer to be an assistant, helping with copies, phone calls and filing. At the family store, you can volunteer to help as a helper in the warehouse or on the sales floor. When volunteering at the community center there are several ways to help such as advising the children on their homework, being an aid to the coaching staff of our sports programs and during the Christmas season helping with The Angel Tree and The Red Kettles.
The Salvation Army has a couple different upcoming events for the community to be involved in this year. One is the Angel Tree Program, which helps less fortunate families provide Christmas, clothes and toys for their children. If not for this program, many children would not have Christmas because their parents simply cannot afford to buy it themselves. The sign-ups for Angel Tree begin September 28 and end October 2, with a make-up day on October 5. Sign-ups take place at the social services office located in the Administration Building at 1529 John B. White Sr. Blvd. Interested parties should bring their driver's license, social security card, proof of residency and pay stubs to prove income if applicable.

Kettle season is another great opportunity where people can volunteer  their time or simply make a donation. Kettle season begins in November and is an extremely important fundraising event that the Salvation Army has been doing since the late 1800's. The kettle kick-off is on November 2 at the Westgate Mall and runs until December 24. The funds raised during kettle season assist The Salvation Army in feeding those in need, and giving warm clothes to those that are cold, and purchasing Christmas for several needy children in the community, as well as much needed operating cost for the organization itself. One can help several different ways during kettle season: (1) offering to ring the bell at one of the red kettle locations, (2) donating money through a paper kettle, (3) matching kettles proceeds or sponsoring a kettle. Interested parties should contact the Kettle coordinator to sign up for either one. Come out and help The Salvation Army this year in any way you choose. The Salvation Army could not do all that it does in the community without the continued support and help from all the volunteers and donors that we have.
