Plus In the Community
This month we are happy to highlight Upstate Family Resource Center. They are a non-profit organization that is focused on supporting and strengthening families in the Boiling Springs and Chesnee communities through assistance and educational programs. Their mission is to help families thrive by providing educational opportunities, engaging activities, and support services to achieve a healthier and more prosperous community.
Family resource centers are a key prevention strategy for addressing many of the challenges that face families, whether they live in rural, suburban or urban areas. To improve outcomes for both families and communities, a family resource center brings together services and activities that educate, develop skills and promote moving in new directions for families.
The Upstate Family Resource Center is located at 1850 Old Furnace Road in Boiling Springs, SC. Operations are housed in a historic school building which, until January 2007, served as the Boiling Springs Middle School campus for Spartanburg County District Two. The UFRC serves the Spartanburg County School District Two attendance area which is located in northern Spartanburg County. This area encompasses the unincorporated suburban Boiling Springs community, the rural town of Chesnee, as well as Mayo, Cooley Springs and Fingerville. Citizens in our community cannot always drive the 15 miles to the City of Spartanburg for assistance. District Two serves 9,565 students and has a population base of more than 46,000. Over 44% of our students participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch program which is a notable sign of need. This is the only resource of its kind in the district and Northern Spartanburg County.
