John Ehrbar Says...

Hi!

In my role at the Y, I have the opportunity to see and learn about the great things that occur in every department. I am humbled by the great work that our front-line employees do on a daily basis. Last week, I also became aware of our staff's outstanding performance in emergency situations.

On Thursday night, an incident occurred at the Central Y. One of our members lost consciousness while descending the steps from the Wellness floor. When our staff reached the scene, the man was not breathing and had no pulse. Our rescue team of Haydn Halsted, Rachel Clement, Kelsi Wellens, and Sarah Yates administered several rounds of CPR and had to use our AED. While we train for these situations on a regular basis, we all hope that we never have to use these skills in real-life situations. I am exceptionally proud that our rescue team was well-prepared and handled the incident very well.  Both the doctor and a Red Cross trainer who was a witness to the event said that our staff did a great job and worked as an effective and efficient team to bring the man back to life.

This incident can be a reminder to all of us, regardless of our position in the organization, that we all have the power to be a hero in someone's life. We do this by building relationships, providing hope, giving opportunities for children to succeed, helping people overcome difficult challenges, or (as demonstrated in this case) by literally saving a life. Thank you all for bringing your skills to this organization and giving hope and life to all those who cross our path.
