Bayou St. John Marsh Project
Volunteers still needed!

Construction is complete. Planting is underway on the new half acre of wetland at the mouth of Bayou Saint John. On March 18th, LPBF partnered with Restore the Earth Foundation and Harrah's Foundation to plant 1,000 marsh grasses in "Gulf Saver" bags. These fertilized, soil-filled sacks will give plants a head start and then break down.
There is still planting to be done. We're looking for help on Wednesday, April 9th and Saturday April 12th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Work will involve wading in mud and sand up to knee deep. We recommend hats, gloves and wearing old sneakers or other closed-toe, lace-up shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Work is appropriate for ages 8 and up with supervision. For details contact  [email protected]

LPBF was recently invited by the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council to participate in two briefings for foreign visitors to learn about LPBF and the Pontchartrain Basin.  Both meetings were held a LPBF's Lines of Defense Lab at the Pontchartrain Beach Office.  The New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council is a nonprofit organization that arranges professional appointments and cultural activities for over 500 international leaders sent to New Orleans annually by the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program and other programs.
