"A friend and I were speaking today and he mentioned he spoke to BGE and told them our system is awesome and super easy to use and the customer service is the best he has ever dealt with. Not just within the OQ world but in general, the best customer service. He then made the statement: "As you continue to take over the world in compliance can you make sure you don't lose the customer service because it is amazing! This is what sold me."

EWN Pipeline Inspector Training Program Release October 1st

Earlier this year, PHMSA released proposed amendments 49 CFR 192.305 and 49 CFR 195.204 to the Operator Qualification Final Rule regarding pipeline inspectors and inspection requirements. In anticipation of the upcoming amendment to the Final Rule and t
o help meet the growing need for more industry qualified pipeline inspectors, EWN has created the industry's first complete Pipeline Inspector Training Program.

The EWN Pipeline Inspector Training program consist of fifty specialty courses designed to fulfill the specific regulatory and training needs of pipeline inspectors throughout the energy industry. Since energy industry inspectors are responsible for a wide array of topics and knowledge, each course was created with the inspector in mind to help enhance the inspector's knowledge of industry construction standards, best practices, and federal regulations. The EWN Pipeline Inspector Training Program will be available in October 2015.

API Pipeline Inspector Certification Exam

The American Petroleum Institute offers Individual Certifications Programs (ICP) for the purpose of skill improvement and enhanced job performance. Beginning in 1989, ICPs have provided the energy industry with a standard to measure expertise and competencies within the industry in an unbiased manner. ICP standards are developed through a partnership with industry leaders and focuses on competencies and skills related to job requirements. An ICP certification is a world-recognized credential, conveying a deep understanding of core elements essential to performing the related tasks with competency.

Among the ICPs offered is the API 1169 Pipeline Inspector Exam. According to the American Pipeline Institute website, API Individual Certification Program for Pipeline Inspectors benefits the industry by:
  • Providing knowledgeable, specialized inspectors
  • Establishing a minimum standard of knowledge and skill for personnel
  • Providing higher management control of inspection practices
  • Increasing employer's confidence and peace-of-mind
  • Helping maintain safety and a high level of performance
  • Reducing the potential for downtime due to equipment failure

The next available testing date for the API 1169 Pipeline Inspector Exam is March 18-April 1, 2016. For more information, please visit the API website.

This Month in Energy History
1933 - The Trip to Saudi Arabia that Changed the Energy Industry

In 1933, Standard Oil of California was granted a concession of exploration and transportation for petroleum and petroleum products located under the Saudi Arabia desert by Saudi King Abdel Aziz. This agreement became known as the Arabian American Oil Company or Aramco. Aramco provided an upfront payment of 50,000 British pounds plus promised a steady income to the Saudi Arabian government for the exclusive rights to all petroleum and petroleum products under the Saudi eastern desert.

In an effort to gain as much of the emerging worldwide gasoline market as possible, Standard Oil dispatched a team of American geologists in search of the optimal drilling locations in the Persian Gulf port of Jubail in Saudi Arabia on September 23, 1933. After a five-year quest, the Aramco geologist and drillers located "commercial quantities" of petroleum at the Dammam Dome near Dhahran in 1938. The first tanker of petroleum from the Aramco agreement was exported in 1939.

Over the next decade, Aramco grew to include Texaco, Standard Oil of New Jersey, and Socony-Vacuum Oil. Through the years, it became evident that the petroleum deposits below the Saudi Arabian desert were substantial. In 1950, a new arrangement was reached where Aramco would share profits with the Saudi Arabian government. The decades following the agreement were filled with disagreements related to pricing and availability of the petroleum leading to the Saudi government gaining complete control of Aramco - now, Saudi Aramco.
