August 13, 1962 - Norman Rockwell Illustrates Oil and Gas Journal
|

The well-known illustrator and painter, Norman Rockwell, was most known during his time for his famous illustrations centered around the American family and lifestyle. In 1916, his renderings could be seen in magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, Boy's Life, and Leslie's Illustrated Weekly. However, in 1959, his illustrations were featured on a postcard designed to commemorate the centennial birth of the nation's oil production sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute. Soon thereafter, in 1962, Rockwell rendered an advertisement in the leading industry magazine, Oil and Gas Journal. Click here to find out more. |
August 3, 1942 - War Brings Historic Pipeline Effort
|
Originally, the "Kentucky Oil and Gas Association" was a name loosely kicked around by a group of oilmen from Eastern Kentucky. In 1919, an oil discovery in Western Kentucky created an influx to the area. Due to this increase in activity, the two regions made a decision to combine forces for better workmanship. After a few articles of incorporation were amended, the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association became the official chosen name.

How Will You Celebrate Public National Gas Week?
|
Public Natural Gas Week (PNGW) is fast approaching. This year, it will be recognized October 9-13. This time provides a great opportunity to capitalize on public awareness and market your business and services to your local community. Many natural gas utility companies have had great success in celebrating this unique week. One of those companies is an EWN client, York County Natural Gas Authority. We visited with Marketing Coordinator, Amy Cassidy to ask about their previous success hosting a PNGW. She mentioned that: "Public Natural Gas Week is an opportunity for us to highlight the advantages of having a locally owned natural gas utility in the community, and to educate consumers on the benefits of using clean, affordable and abundant natural gas. The week builds public awareness and allows us to showcase our campus, which includes a public CNG fast-fill station, outdoor living area and appliance showroom, in a fun and engaging way. The week-long festivities include informational sessions on tankless water heating and Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV's), as well as a large open house where we provide a FREE catered lunch and offer door prizes and drawings. The event builds each year, and we expect to host around 500 consumers in October." Below are some additional ideas inspired by a recent article in The SOURCE, a magazine by the American Public Gas Association (APGA), to help you as you prepare for your 2013 PNGW Celebration: Tips - Focus your event around free and fun
- Make the event/activities engaging and interactive
- Utilize PNGW to show customer and employee appreciation
- Post unique facts, quizzes, or historical info throughout the week about Natural Gas on social media or emails
- Share safety and home efficiency tips
- Create posters, flyers, bill stuffers etc. to educate customers on natural gas benefits and uses
Activities - Hosting a concert featuring local bands
- Cook-off event, BBQ, or Weenie Roast
- Sweet-treats gathering (make sundaes, enjoy cupcakes, or S'mores, etc.)
- Outdoor park/carnival-type event (with balloons, popcorn, NGV or byproducts on display)
- Open house with a meet and greet
- Traveling, mobile-unit featuring NG powered appliances
