Thank you to everyone who joined us for "Mexico Moving Forward" last month. Our annual symposium was especially exciting this year because we had the opportunity to celebrate our opening dinner at the newly constructed Cross Border Xpress, a cross-border airport terminal that soon will connect San Diego and Tijuana. The dinner included a sneak peek of this innovative binational infrastructure project. For those of you who missed the symposium, please see the media coverage below and be on the lookout for filmed sessions from the day, to be released soon.

The Center is set for a busy remainder of the year, preparing to launch fieldwork in January with the UC Mexico Initiative Education Working Group on education and migration in San Diego and Tijuana. In addition, we will host a Frontera Fridays event on Dec. 4, when we will travel to Tecate, Baja California, for a daylong program focused on indigenous cultures and history in our binational region.

Un abrazo,

'Mexico Moving Forward'

USMEX hosted a diverse lineup of policymakers, scholars and community leaders for its annual symposium, "Mexico Moving Forward: Recapturing the Mexico Moment." The all-day event was held on Friday, Oct. 30, culminating in a Dia de los Muertos celebration with decorated altars and a live mariachi band. View a photo gallery here and, for more coverage, read these articles:

Meet the USMEX Fellows

This year's cohort of experts are wrapping up their first quarter at the Center. Collectively, the group's research interests include areas such as binational industry clusters, security, public health and transnational political participation.
The Boon Over the Border

If technology is no longer limited to Silicon Valley, then the innovation community in San Diego can no longer be bound by its borders. San Diego's most unique advantage is its location, where industry can be aided by cross-border interchange.
