Summer is here, and contrary to popular belief, it is one of the busiest seasons at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies (USMEX). We are looking forward to receiving a group of visiting graduate students from the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) in Tijuana, Mexico, who will spend five weeks at USMEX. In addition, we are preparing to welcome our incoming cohort of fellows in September (see below).

We are also hard at work on gearing up for the Mexican Migration Field Research Project. In the fall, a group of students and faculty will begin a yearlong project to examine issues at the intersection of health, education and migration in the binational region. This work is a collaboration with the UC-Mexico Initiative Education Working Group and on-campus partners, including the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies, Latin American Studies Program, and Health Frontiers in Tijuana Clinic, as well as the Universidad Autnoma de Baja California and COLEF.

In August, we will visit Mexico City for our Summer Celebration, including a lecture with Dr. Peter Smith, and to reunite UC San Diego alumni, former fellows and summer seminar participants. Stay tuned for additional details in the beginning of July!

Un abrazo,

P.S. If you don't already have Mexico Moving Forward: Recapturing the Mexico Moment on your calendar, please be sure to save the date and plan to join us on Friday, October 30!
Recapturing the Mexico Moment

Join us for a daylong symposium covering topics ranging from recapturing the "Mexico Moment" to the progress and pitfalls of structural reforms and the transformation of civil society. An occasion for business leaders, civil society, scholars and policymakers to discuss Mexico's progress and future direction, Mexico Moving Forward is a forum for answers on how the country can chart a course over the next three years to recapture the Mexico Moment.
Meet the 2015-2016 Fellows

Fifteen fellows will join us next year at the Center. They work on a wide range of issues, including security, trade, migration, health, infrastructure and education. Their work represents some of the most innovative scholarship on Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico relationship.
