Helping Traumatized Kids Thrive
An understanding of the effects of trauma and adverse childhood experiences led to a paradigm shift in high school discipline and an 85% drop in suspensions in a school in Walla Walla, Washington.

Report: California Shows No Improvement in Children's Well-Being
California is showing no improvement for overall children's well-being. For the second consecutive year, the Golden State ranks 41st in the nation in the annual KIDS COUNT report.
According to Ted Lempert, president of Children Now, California leaders aren't giving enough attention to the fundamental issues undermining our children's - and our state's - success.

Federal Early Learning Update
Support for a federal early learning initiative continues to grow! Earlier this week, we learned more about a comprehensive early childhood education bill in the works in the U.S. Senate. US Education Secretary Arne Duncan recently visited California and talked about how high-quality early learning is at the top of his priority list, and the White House released estimates on how our state could benefit from major new investments in early childhood education.

Troubled Children is a five-part series that examines issues including the transition to adulthood, the uncertainty of diagnosis, the use of multiple medications and the role of parents.
Valley Oak Children's Services has partnered with Strengthening Families Illinois, with funding made available by First 5 Butte County, to provide a free, two-day Parent Café Training in Chico.
