Fur & Outdoor Boots NewsletterMarch, 2013
Greetings!

Spring is in the air and it will soon be time for your furry friends to hibernate for the Summer. In this newsletter, although I am being a little goofy, I will pass on some important information concerning the proper Summer storage of your fur boots.

Now that you have invested in a pair of real fur boots, it is important that they are cared for properly so that they will last for years to come. To keep your fur boots lasting as long as possible and looking their best, follow the tips below to learn more about caring for your furry friends.

Clean boots look better and live longer

Spring conditions can be wet and muddy. If your furry frinds come in messy from walking around outside, follow the instructions below.
  • To clean dirty or wet fur; shake the excess moisture off the fur and blot gently with a towel. Let the fur air dry completely.
  • For extreme dirt, a mild liquid detergent can be used, then rinse with clear water. Then shake, blot and air dry.
  • Do Not brush the fur! While it may seem like there would be no harm in brushing the fur on your boots, this is not a good idea, it can cause the fur to fall out.
  • Oil stains may be permanent. Try to gently buff cornmeal or talcum powder on the spots to clean and minimize.
  • If your fur boots cannot be cleaned successfully, take them to a trusted fur specialist at a dry cleaner.
Proper storage insures the best look for years to come

As the snows melt and the temperature increases, most people let their furry friends sleep for the Summer. (Although I have seen a few being used in the heat on Viking wannabes at a Renaissance Fair.) To insure that your boots wake beautifully from their Summer sleep, follow these tips:
  • Do Not store your boots in plastic storage bins. This can cause the boots to smell bad. A cardboard box in a closet is good. But the best is to leave them in an area where the air is allowed to circulate and where it is dark, dry and cool.
  • Do Not crush the fur when storing. If your boots came with mesh wrapping, slide them on your boots from the top down, to hold the fur in place. This will avoid your boots from waking with funny cowlicks when you get them out next winter.
  • Do Not use mothballs! This can be damaging to the fur and the smell will get stuck in the fur.
  • Keep them away from heat and light. Fur is flammable, so avoid storing them near heaters. Also, exposure to bright light for long periods can cause the fur to fade in color.
Fur boots are happiest with companions

We know that you cannot wear your fur boots everyday. So when you leave them at home, we feel that they should have another pair of fur boots to hang out with.

We are currently running our End-of-Season SALE and have reduced the price on ALL of our fur boots! Supply is limited, we only have certain sizes in this and that. So when ordering, please have a second choice in mind, just in case we have to call you with the bad news.

A proper diet will keep your fur boots fit

What do you feed your furry friends? Although you may feel that any ol' sock will do, this is not true.

Fur boots are very warm, which is their purpose. But if they are too warm and cause your feet to sweat, we strongly recommend a good pair of wicking socks. Cotton socks, while absorbent, will hold on to moisture and could make your feet feel cold. Socks made of polypropylene move moisture away from your skin, keeping your feet dry, warm and comfortable.

We also recommend socks with Lycra spandex at the top. This will keep your socks from falling down into your boots, which is not only annoying to you and your boot, but it makes your boots stretch and feel sloppy.

Ski and snowboard socks are shaped to the contour of your feet, alleviating extra material that can create wrinkles. Sock wrinkles in a boot can cut off circulation which will make your feet cold and uncomfortable.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do Not use fabric softener when laundering your socks! Fabric softener, while making your socks soft and smell nice, coat the fibers with a waxy substance that inhibates moisture absorption.
