Share the Love of Snowboarding
Snowboard Newsletter
January 2013
Greetings!

Woo Hoo! The snow is finally here!! It's been a slow start for so many ski areas. Mother Nature has been snoozing on the job. But now you have no excuse, it's time to get out there and ride!

January is Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month and in this newsletter I would like to talk about ways that you can share your love of the sport.
Start 'em Young
I started skiing during my freshman year of college and as kids passed me by I would wish that I had started earlier. Children learn to ski and snowboard so quickly and are more resilient to the inevitable falls.

When we started our kids on skis, it was back-breaking work. Ski harnesses and leashes were just coming into the picture. (I wish we had patented one back then.) Check out this Grip N Guide

Learning aids make the job so much easier for the parent and the kids learn faster, easier and safer. Teaching aids boosts the childs confidence.

Start 'em Right
No matter what age, be it your child or your best friend, we highly recommend Snowboard School. For these reasons:
  • Instructors are trained to teach the proper way to ski and the safe way to fall.
  • Beginners learn better from an authority figure.
  • While the student is in class, you're free to get in some quality runs. After class you can help the newbie practice and not feel robbed of your snow time.

Keep 'em coming back

One of the top excuses people use for not learning how to snowboard is:
"I don't like being cold."
Do the newbie a big favor, teach them how to dress the right way for the cold. Here are the basics:

 * Wicking base layers of some poly fiber. NOT COTTON!       See base layers

 * Fitted snowboard socks, so that there are no wrinkles. Again, made of some poly blend and NOT COTTON!      See socks

                * Fleece or wool blend sweater, NOT COTTON!

 * Waterproof and insulated jacket and pants. NO BLUE JEANS!  Have you seen blue stripes in the snow? Not smart.       See clothing

 * A good pair of insulated and waterproof snowboard gloves or mittens. Hands can get cold fast and rope tows will rip the skin off fingers if you're wearing thin, everyday gloves.  See gloves & mittens

 * And if you know this newbie is susceptible to cold hands and feet, heat packs are inexpensive and can save the day.

                           See hand and boot warmers

As the beginner grows to love the sport and decides to invest more into clothing and equipment, there is a multitude of merchandise that will keep him warm all day. Check these out:
Getting started in snowboarding is a lot easier than you think. Sure it takes a lot of stuff to get you going. But with today's shaped boards and well fitted boots, beginners are learning the sport faster than ever.

Snowboarding is a great way to pass the time in the winter. Instead of dreading snow, you start wishing for it.

See you on the slopes,

 Rick & Laurie
