Fabulous Fragrance and Tantalizing Colorful Tropicals

We have put together a very nice collection of great plants for your fragrant garden. Many of your old favorites are here again this year, with a "sprinkling" of some fabulous new ones too! Color, texture, structure and movement are vital elements to a great flower garden. Yet the importance of fragrance is often overlooked; fragrance can become the fabric that ties together all the other elements and helps bring ambiance and that special magic to your garden.

Cestrum Nocturnum
Cestrum nocturnum

One of our favorite plants might well be the world's most fragrant plant, the Night Blooming Jessimine, sometimes called La Dama de Noche. (cestrum nocturnum). This tropical plant comes to life in the warm summer evenings. The almost hypnotic perfume will float throughout your garden delighting the senses. Its cousin, Orange Cestrum (cestrum aurantiacum), picture above, is an evergreen shrub with brilliant orange tubular flowers. Although without fragrance, it is a hummingbird magnet! Both are well suited to containers and will add a special ambiance to your garden space.

PinkBrugmansia
Pink Brugmansia

Another fragrant favorite is the magnificent Brugmansia or Angel's Trumpet, beginning its bloom in the next several weeks, it will continue to blossom all summer. Huge downward facing blooms are amazing in their size and fragrance. You might keep these prized specimens in containers and when cared for properly later this fall, you will enjoy them again year after year! Coming in many colors we have SunRay, Jean Pasco, Charles Grimaldi, Super Nova, Peaches and Cream, Pink Frost and double white.

You will also like Daphne Eternal Fragrance with beautiful Dichroawhite flowers,  which is great for small gardens. Or the sensual Gardenia "Frost Proof" with flowers from spring to fall. Another favorite? Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum Jasminoides), producing intensely fragrant white flowers and glossy green foliage. All are great choices for your garden. On the right, dichroa februfuga.

In The Nursery
Tomatoes, Vegetable Starts, Old Fashioned Zinnias, Summer Annuals, Baskets, Perennials (June is Perennial Month), Orchids, Citrus Plants, Canna Lilies, Hardy, Hibiscus, Elephant's Ear, Dichroa Febrifuga and much more.

Hint:  Remember to Mulch to save water and weeding time!
