Early Spring Vegetable Plants, Seeds and other New Arrivals

Your Checklist for Early March

Our first crop of early spring vegetable starters are on the benches, fresh and ready for your gardens. Now is the time to plant your initial round of these cool weather vegetables plants. Make sure your soil is well prepared, free of weeds and not overly saturated with water.  Suited for planting directly into the ground or vegetable bins are: brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, lettuce and greens such as mizuna. You should also  begin fertilizing with organic nutrients, either while preparing your soil or shortly after planting.

Many seeds can be sowed directly into the ground or into your vegetable bins now too. We carry Ed Hume seeds as well as organic Irish Eyes seeds.
Some of the many favorites that can be sowed directly outdoors now are arugula, parsley, peas, beets, radishes, spinach, swiss chard, and turnips. Sow outdoors,  in your cold frame, these vegetable seeds: beets, broccoli, carrot, cabbage, lettuce, mustard and greens.  And finally, sow your tomatoes and peppers indoors under a light. Get the tomatoes and peppers planted as soon as possible. (BTW, we will have another great collection of tomato plants later this spring)

If you want early crops, easy care and stand up access to your vegetable
garden, a Mukilteo Cedar vegetable bin is the way to go. They also make great cold frames with the addition of Planted Vegie Bin a simple cover. We will
have our first order of bins delivered late next week.  If you would like one of these early order bins, please give us a call and we will hold one for you with a small deposit. Prices for the 3 foot bin is $149, 5 footer is $189 and 7 footer at $229. Great for balconies and patios. More on these great bins in another newsletter.

Other great projects for March include cutting back old perennials, dividing those late blooming perennials, pruning and feeding your roses, hydrangeas, trees and shrubs. Remember, weeding now will save you tons
of weeding time later.
