We wrote last year about the great trees grown in the Skagit Valley by Biringer Family Nursery. What's impressive about these trees are that they are grown on grafted rootstock that is ideal for our Northwest Climate. Rootstock is the key to great grafted trees. When buying fruit trees always check for the type of rootstock, because what grows well in Georgia or California may

not be right for us in the Pacific Northwest. Our fruit trees on dwarf rootstock are excellent for growing in containers on your deck or you can plant them into those smaller sunny areas of your garden. (Yes, even you urban condo dwellers can have fruit trees) The semi-dwarf rootstock trees are ideal for somewhat larger spaces and can be kept to a height and width that suits your style. All our trees will produce fruit this year and will gradually build into bumper crops in the years to come.
Do you need a pollinator or not? That will depend on the variety of tree you choose and what is growing in your neighbors garden. Generally if a tree requires a pollinator and there is a cross pollinator in the neighborhood, you will be fine. The bees and other pollinating critters will

take care of the necessary business for you. Many trees are self-pollinating. If it doesn't tell you on the tag, just ask us. We have pollination charts. Still unsure? Another choice may be to go with one of the combination trees! With 3 or 4 varieties of the same type fruit on each tree, pollination is never an issue. Combination trees with 4

types of apples, or 4 types of pears, or 4 types of plums or 4 types of cherries. Or maybe even a tree with one of each, like Fruit Salad. (these are very limited, hurry in if you want one) You will find these trees in either an espaliered 3 level style to put along fences or attach to wires, or in an upright form that you are probably more familiar with. All are fun, healthy and ready to be planted now. Right now we have our best selection of the year. If you are thinking of adding a fruit tree this year, now is the time!
