April 2014

Dear

It's time to pack our bags and hop a flight to sunny (we hope) Orlando! The SAWC Spring conference starts in just a few days, and we can't wait to get there.

We'll be in Booth #800, so please stop by to discuss how your facility can benefit from the new Heelift Glide and Heelift AFO. We've shown you the evidence that Heelift brand boots offload effectively, but now we've got something else to show you. Recently concluded laboratory tests show that the Heelift creates a cooler, drier microclimate, helping to prevent skin breakdown.

As you know, heat and moisture are the enemies of delicate skin. A better microclimate for the heel means less risk of pressure ulcers. And in Orlando (where they know a little bit about heat and humidity), we'll be showing off the results of the new tests. Stop by to learn the details.

Our article this month deals with deep tissue injury, which can sometimes be a forgotten category of pressure ulcers, but which are just as dangerous to patients. The good news is, if treated properly, there is no evidence to suggest that DTIs can't be treated with the same interventions (including the Heelift) as other pressure ulcers.

We'd love to hear your thoughts. So many of you have written us from these newsletters to request a sample, please drop us a line at this address to tell us what you think. Haven't seen a sample? Use the link below to request one now.

Sincerely,

A Two-Year Retrospective Review of Suspected Deep Tissue Injury Evolution in Adult Acute Care Patients
By Rhonda Sullivan, PhD, RN, CWON, LNCC

Suspected deep tissue injury (sDTI) was recently defined as a pressure ulcer category, and knowledge about the evolution of these ulcers is limited.

The purpose of this single-site, 2-year, retrospective, IRB- approved study was to increase understanding of the evolution and outcomes of sDTI.
