December 2013

Dear

As the year winds down and we get closer to the holidays, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Whether you've been receiving our e-mails from the beginning, or have only recently signed up, we appreciate that you trust us with a few precious moments of your otherwise busy day.

As you start to plan for 2014, keep in mind something we've been saying for a while: A multidisciplinary approach to pressure ulcer prevention is vital to the success of your protocol. A new white paper we've prepared helps to bring the issue into focus, hopefully giving you some ideas on how to organize your prevention program for the coming year.

Of course, we also believe that a crucial part of preventing heel pressure ulcers is the use of a high quality offloading device. That's why we took years' of feedback from clinicians like you to create the new Heelift® Glide. The Heelift Glide stays in place better thanks to a soft fabric exterior and forefoot strap, leading to fewer readjustments and reapplications. And like all Heelift boots, it creates a superior microclimate for the prevention of skin breakdown.

The Heelift Glide has only been around a few months, but the response has exceeded our expectations. Clinicians who see the Heelift Glide and use it say the boot stays in place better, while maintaining the comfort and effective offloading they've come to expect from Heelift. Want to see for yourself? There's a sample request form below. Have you tried the new Heelift Glide yet? If so, drop us a line and let us know what you think.

Again, thank you for your continued support throughout 2013. Here's hoping you have a peaceful and joyful holiday season, and all the best for 2014.

Sincerely,

Denis Drennan, MD

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO BEAT THE PERFECT STORM:
Why Now is the Time for a
Multidisciplinary Approach to
Preventing Heel Pressure Ulcers
Denis B. Drennan, MD

The National Quality Forum, together with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, categorized Heel Pressure Ulcers (HPUs) as "never events" in 2008. Five years later, a "perfect storm" of obstacles has evolved that makes preventing hospital-acquired pressure ulcers more difficult.

This white paper summarizes the challenges that facilities are facing in regards to lowering heel pressure ulcer prevalence. It also details how a multidisciplinary approach can beat this "perfect storm" that currently hinder efforts to prevent heel pressure ulcers.
