November 2013

Dear

We work hard to aid clinicians in preventing pressure ulcers every day, but we wanted to take a moment to assist our friends at the NPUAP, who are promoting World Wide Pressure Ulcer Prevention Day later this month. While awareness of pressure ulcer prevention has grown exponentially these last few years, we feel it can never be stated enough that the easiest pressure ulcer to treat is the one you prevent. To help raise awareness, download this sign from the NPUAP that can be posted in your facility in support of pressure ulcer prevention.

Our featured article this month deals with something we don't talk about: outcomes. The simple fact of the matter is that not all wounds heal, and this article does a remarkable job of helping predict what kinds of wounds will and won't heal. To our thinking, it's reminder that the best treatment...well, we already said that once this month, didn't we?

You've probably been hearing a lot about microclimate lately. To be sure, it's not a new topic, but it's one that is gaining momentum as an important discussion, especially as it pertains to support surfaces and offloading devices. We've always said that the Heelift® Suspension Boot and the new Heelift® Glide create the ideal microclimate for the prevention of skin breakdown. Now there's some tangible data to back it up. See our "Resources" to the right and take a look at the research that was presented at the SAWC Fall conference.

The Heelift Glide has only been around a few months, but the response has exceeded our expectations. Clinicians who see the Heelift Glide and use it say the boot stays in place better, while maintaining the comfort and effective offloading they've come to expect from Heelift. Want to see for yourself? There's a sample request form below.

Have you tried the new Heelift Glide yet? If so, drop us a line and let us know what you think.

Sincerely,

Hospital-acquired pressure ulcers are a common problem. Although a number of risk factors have been identified, relationships among risk profile characteristics and pressure ulcer outcomes have not been described in hospitalized patients.

The article seeks to describe patients' characteristics and risk factors associated with
pressure ulcer outcome via a retrospective chart review.
