Dear

Evidence is a tricky word. We know there are different kinds of evidence, and those kinds of evidence have different strengths. And what any clinician who has been around for a while knows is that there is a lot of it out there. It's tough to sift through, and tough to make sense of it. We're here to help.

The AHRQ has put out its review of the evidence in the field of pressure ulcer prevention. What works, how sure can we be? The full study is massive, but we've linked to the executive summary to the right. In short, it reviews as much available research as possible to help guide you in creating guidelines and protocols for pressure ulcer prevention

If we do say so ourselves, we think you'll see that the Heelift® comes out looking pretty good as a heel offloading device.

And that's before we even mention the new Heelift® Glide. The Heelift Glide saves nursing time by making sure the boot stays in place, eliminating the need for adjustments and reapplications. And it offloads just like a Heelift. A superior microclimate provides patient comfort and maximum protection against pressure ulcers.

Ready to try the Heelift Glide at your facility? See the sample request form below.

Need to be convinced? We'll be showing the Glide at several national conferences in the fall, as well as your regional WOCN conference. Stop by the booth and see for yourself why the Heelift Glide is the next step forward in heel offloading.

We'd love to hear from you. Have you tried the new Heelift Glide yet? Drop us a line and let us know what you think.

Sincerely,

Testimonials

"This has been a blessing for this resident, because of her condition and the length of time she has had this wound... I love this (Heelift Glide) boot and have worked in nursing for 50 years. The simple thing-the heel is really not touching anything. Plus, it does not stick to the sheets."

Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment and Prevention: Comparative Effectiveness
Executive Summary

This Comparative Effectiveness Review (CER) topic was nominated by the American College of Physicians, which intends to develop a guideline on prevention and management of pressure ulcers (i.e., prevention of ulcers in people without ulcers at baseline). This report focuses on the comparative effectiveness of various pressure ulcer risk-assessment and prevention approaches; the treatment of pressure ulcers is addressed in a separate review.

A new study shows a difference in proteins between younger and older patients may further the notion that pressure ulcers may not be entirely preventable.
