Dear

Over the past few months, you've heard us talk quite a bit about the new Heelift Glide, and what conferences we're exhibiting at to show off our newest weapon in the fight against heel pressure ulcers.

But we're taking a break from that this month. While it's true that we're gearing up for the fall conference season, we want to remind you of our other recent innovation, HeelSafe DVT Hose. HeelSafe are softer, easier to don and remove, and more comfortable than traditional compression hose. They also feature a unique "window" design that not only keeps pressure off the sensitive skin around the heel, but allows for quick and easy visualization of the heel.

Another component of the HeelSafe that we take very seriously is the sizing. As you can see from this month's article, proper sizing is vital to the success of using graduated compression hose. With sizes that will accommodate up to a 26" calf or a 36" thigh. See the full size chart in our instruction guide.

HeelSafe DVT Hose are machine washable, latex-free, and made in the USA. See the Sample Request link below to get a free sample.

We'd love to hear from you. Drop us a line and let us know what you think.

Sincerely,

Denis Drennan, MD

Compression stockings significantly improve hemodynamic performance in post-thrombotic
syndrome irrespective of class or length

Christopher R. Lattimer, MBBS, FRCS, MS, FDIT, Mustapha Azzam, MD, MSc, PGD, Evi Kalodiki,MD, PhD, FRCS, Gregory C.Makris,MD, and George Geroulakos, MD, FRCS, PhD

Graduated elastic compression (GEC) stockings have been demonstrated to reduce the morbidity associated with post-thrombotic syndrome. The ideal length or compression strength required to achieve this is speculative and related to physician preference and patient compliance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hemodynamic performance of four different stockings and determine the patient's preference.

Correct sizing  and use of graduated  compression stockings is an important nursing responsibility that has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). However, our recent study shows that over 25% of the stockings in 142 hospitalized patients weren't correctly sized and/or used, depriving the patients of their potential benefit and increasing the risk of skin breakdown and other problems.
