Dear

We're hard at work packing our things to go to Denver for the SAWC Spring Conference (which apparently needs to include both snowshoes and sunscreen). But we wanted to take a moment to invite you to stop by our booth 1001 at the Colorado Convention Center to see the official unveiling of our newest innovation, the Heelift®Glide.  As loyal readers of these newsletters you are already familiar with the new Heelift Glide, but this week we're making it official.

The Heelift Glide has a soft exterior cover that allows it to move easily across the sheets (and under blankets) decreasing the likelihood that the boot will displace. A forefoot strap supports the foot and further secures the boot in place. The extended forefoot protects more of the foot and keeps blankets and sheets away from sensitive skin. Plus, it's 40% lighter than a pillow style boot while also being cooler and less bulky. You know the Heelift name, so give the new Heelift Glide a look in your facility. See the sample request form below.

Our feature article this month takes the issue of pressure ulcers as a patient safety issue, which fits well with our recommendations, and those of most clinicians, that prevention is the key.

We hope to see you in Denver, and remember we'd love to hear from you. You can e-mail us at
this address.

Sincerely,

Denis Drennan, MD
President, DM Systems Inc

Preventing In-Facility Pressure Ulcers as a Patient Safety Strategy
A Systematic Review
Nancy Sullivan, BA, and Karen M. Schoelles, MD, SM

Complications from hospital-acquired pressure ulcers cause 60 000 deaths and significant morbidity annually in the United States. The objective of this systematic review is to review evidence regarding multicomponent strategies for preventing pressure ulcers and to examine the importance of contextual aspects of programs that aim to reduce facility-acquired pressure ulcers.
