Let's CELEBRATE!  Happy Earth Month!
Spring is in the air (finally) and we are excited to kick off the 2014 Earth Month!  This year, the Hoosier Environmental Council will table at as many of Indiana's Earth Day events as we can - and we hope to see you there.

We have much to celebrate! Read below about our successes in the Indiana Legislature...and our fun, exciting eco-fashion event with Aveda on April 27th.
Victories in the 2014 Legislative Session
HEC STATE HOUSE
This was the most challenging legislative session we've faced in several years, with lawmakers considering many bills that would have weakened environmental protection. But fortunately, with your support, we achieved several victories. Here are the three biggest ones:
  • We successfully pushed back against efforts to give unprecedented constitutional protection to factory farms.
  • We also organized a coalition of sixteen diverse organizations to defeat a bill that would have tied the hands of Indiana policy experts to strengthen health safeguards beyond minimal federal standards.
  • And we achieved a great breakthrough, at last, in working closely with our allies to see a mass transit funding bill finally become law!
We thank everyone who contacted their legislators this session! Over 3,000 messages were sent through our Action Center alone, and it is this level of commitment which enabled us to achieve these victories.  Learn more about the wins and challenges of the legislative session HERE.

Another Year,  Another Beautiful Partnership

At HEC, Earth Month is especially exciting as it brings us an opportunity to work with Aveda - a company whose values include social responsibility and going to exceptional lengths to respect the earth. Recognizing that the success of their business depends upon clean water, the Aveda company began a global fundraising campaign in 2007 to support local organizations that are protecting our water resources. Now, for the fifth year in a row, Aveda has selected HEC as a local Earth Month partner, meaning Aveda salons across the state will collect donations and host fundraising events, all to benefit Hoosier Environmental Council.  In turn, HEC will put all funds raised toward improving water quality in Indiana.

Beauty and a Cause:

This year the Aveda Earth Month campaign will culminate in the 2nd annual Catwalk for Clean Water fashion show on Sunday April 27, 2014.  In addition to makeup and hair designs from some of the city's top cosmetologists, the event will showcase fashions from local retailers as well as innovative eco-fashions made from up-cycled and repurposed materials.  The Catwalk is always an exciting and fun event, and all proceeds support the clean water initiatives of HEC.  Tickets range in price from $20 to $35 and can be purchased HERE.

With your help, we can make environmental change happen!

Please make a tax-deductible contribution to help HEC continue making Indiana a healthier, more sustainable place to live and work.
