ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS . . . 8th Grade Parent Night will be Monday, 3.14.  Self-guided tours begin @ 6:30 PM.  The presentation begins @ 7 PM in the auditorium.  

 

SK grad Angie Gillespie [Class of 1996] needs our help.
She has written a jingle for J. G. Wentworth's "shot at the spot" jingle writing competition. She's currently in 2nd place and could use some SK family votes.  You can vote once a day.

TEAM UPDATES  
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 
Sophomore Ally Niece scored her 2000th point and hit the winning shot against Highlands last Thursday.  The shot came from 3/4 court! 

INDOOR PERCUSSION 
The indoor percussion team took 1st place this weekend at the Bellbrook
High School Competition. 

WRESTLING TEAM 
The wrestling team finished their season this weekend, earning a few more pieces of hardware on their way out. Junior Casey Cornett became SK's 24th state champion, taking the title in the 170 pound weight class.  Fellow junior Dante Castellano finished 3rd and was widely considered the most improved wrestler in the Commonwealth.  The team represented our school well, with respect and class, and finished 17th in the state.

Senior Blake Powell earned the Riherd's Above and Beyond Citizenship Award.  Blake earned this award for being such a class act and demonstrating unbelievable character to his team, school and the rest of the state. 
 
ACADEMIC TEAM & FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVING 
Chelsea Russell scored the winning point in overtime to lead the academic team to a 35-34 win over Dixie. The win sends the team to state for the 2nd consecutive year. Please congratulate Chelsea, Emily Girard, Sam Roberts, and Nicholas Griffey. Chelsea, Emily, and Sam also advanced to state in the written tests.
 
The Future Problem-Solving team finished 2nd to advance to state. Team members were Kathryn Johnson, Meghan Snellings, Hanna Howard and Haylee Mitchell. 
 
SWIMMING & DIVING TEAM 
In the recent swimming Regionals, the women's medley relay team placed 6th.  Sophomore Shaine Olmstead placed 7th in the 500m. In the men's 200m free relay, the team placed 5th.

State qualifiers were Liam Blanchet, Braden Chow, Shaine Olmstead Austin Hartman and Patrick Hutchinson.
 
BOWLING TEAM 
Pioneers had a great showing at the state bowling tournament in Lexington. Seniors Jacob Lawson and Vanessa Cheeseman represented in the singles division last Thursday.

Jacob Lawson finished 11th out of 32 bowlers, just missing the the cut by 17 pins. Vanessa Cheeseman was our first Lady Pioneer to make it to State.

On Friday the women's team competed in the team tournament, seating 6th after the qualifying round. The team was led by senior Michelle Thomas with a 210 game, sophomore Haley Desentz with a 188 game and junior Savannah Corwin with a 181 game.  The team lost in the first round to Louisville Male 3-1.  
WOMEN'S SOCCER 
Attention Girls Soccer Players: There will be an informational parent and player meeting on Wednesday, 2.24 @ 7 PM in the SK Library. If you have any questions please email Coach Zoeller at Robert.Zoeller@kenton.kyschools.us.

CROCHET & KNITTING CLUB New and experienced people are welcome to join the group after school on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Bring your yarn, crochet hooks and knitting needles!

FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE DANCE 
The Freshman-Sophomore Dance will be Friday, April 1 from 8-11 PM. The theme is 007. (James Bond/Secret Agent).
 Tickets will be on sale in March. More details will follow closer to the event.  
 

STUDENT COUNCIL will meet the first and second Thursday of every month throughout the school year in the Library Media Center from 2:40 - 3:30. ALL grades are welcome.  See Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 if you have questions.
 
PIONEER PRIDE meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  New members are ALWAYS welcome.

GUITAR CLUB
will meet from 2:45-3:45 PM every last Wednesday of the month in the chorus room.  Anyone interested in playing or learning to play the guitar is welcome to attend.  Next meeting is Wednesday, February 25.

BOOK CLUB will meet on 2.26 to discuss The Nazi Hunters by Neal Bascomb.

To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the PDF of the confirmation page provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered. A credit card or debit card is needed to register.

Good news about SCHOLARSHIPS: 
There are several new scholarships available for seniors. Applications and information can be found in the scholarship drawer located in the Guidance Office. During the spring semester these opportunities will come in frequently, so please encourage your students to continue checking for them.

NKU SCHOOL-BASED SCHOLARS  There will be an informational meeting for all sophomores, juniors and their parents who are interested in taking dual-credit classes through NKU's School-Based Scholars program for the 2016-2017 school year. 

The meeting will be held on Monday, 2.22 @ 6 PM in the SK auditorium.   James Catchen from NKU will be present, along with counselor Roy Lucas, to explain details of how the program works and requirements for students wishing to take dual-credit classes through NKU.
