DEADLINE TO ORDER CAPS & GOWNS IS JANUARY 29 in order to receive in time for graduation.

JUNIORS . . . the ACT is March 1 @ SK.  It's not too early to prepare!
 
Students interested in spending 14 days in China this summer should see Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 for the application and details. 

UPCOMING FUNDRAISER . . . The Lady Pioneer basketball team is sponsoring the 2nd Annual "Buckets for Brittany" Memorial Game on Monday, January 25 against Boone County.  This game and the associated events (including a silent auction and bake sale) will be a fundraiser for the SK Special Education Department.

SK's Adaptive Guard will be featured in a special performance between the JV and Varsity games.  Paul Daugherty, author of the best-selling book Uncomplicated Life, and his daughter Jillian will be special guests at the event (and will sign books).  Learn more about them at http://www.uncomplicatedlife/

Presale t-shirts will be sold by the team for the student body and community to wear to the game.  Please help support SK's Special Education Department and buy a shirt today!

TEAM UPDATES    
 
BOWLING TEAMS  On January 3, the men's team participated in the Covington Catholic tournament. The team was
 runner-ups to Campbell County. Spencer Becknell and Jonathan Cummins was 1st All-Tournament team.

The women's team had a great showing in the Holiday Classic at Western Bowl.
 
On January 9 the men's team were 20th in the High School Classic hosted at Western Bowl. 

On Saturday, January 17 at the 
LaSalle Baker Bash, the men's team bowled to a seed 4th out of 26 boys teams. They made the Elite round only to get knocked out by Mason County wth an average of 209 for 20 baker games.

Congratulations to the men's team for being 2015-2016  N.K.A.C. Champions!

GET INVOLVED!  SK Clubs, Groups & Athletics 
 
FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE DANCE  
The Freshman-Sophomore Dance will be Friday, April 1 from 8-11 PM.
The theme is 007. (James Bond/Secret Agent). 
Tickets will be on sale in March. More details will follow closer to the event. 

SPANISH CLUB will meet on Wednesday, January 20 in Room 316.  All students are welcome and can see Mrs. Warner with any questions.

NHS will meet on Friday, February 5.  All fall service hours are due THIS FRIDAY to Mrs. Dukes in Room 293 or Mrs. Cross in Room 130.

STUDENT COUNCIL
 will meet the first and second Thursday of every month throughout the school year in the Library Media Center from 2:40 - 3:30. ALL grades are welcome.  See Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 if you have questions.
 
PIONEER PRIDE meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  New members are ALWAYS welcome.

GUITAR CLUB
will meet from 2:45-3:45 PM every last Wednesday of the month in the chorus room.  Anyone interested in playing or learning to play the guitar is welcome to attend.

ART CLUB meets on Mondays in the art room from 2:30-4 PM every other week.  Listen to the announcements for updates.  $5 dues are to be turned in at the meeting.

NEW BUS APP
Parents/Guardians - Kenton County is proud to present a new bus application that will allow you to see where your student's bus is.  Just use the attached guide to sign up.  You will need to know your son/daughter's bus number to sign up.  Please note the following information: 
  1. There is NO Kenton County information being shared with company that is not already in the company's purview.  (The bus number and geo location.)
  2. No student or family information is used at all. 
  3. There are no students identified on the bus. 
  4. There is NO indication of route or next stop.  Parent must be familiar with area.

Cinderella's Closet
Each year around 40 SK young women receive prom dresses through Cinderella's Closet - it is a great program! Contact Melissa Cross if you are interested in getting involved. The FRYSC will be collecting dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry, etc. Bring donations to Room 130.

COUNSELING CORNER
 
The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics is accepting applications through February 1, 2016.
 
Students will need to submit their finalized application, 5 essay questions, 3 letters of recommendation, high school transcript and any qualifying ACT scores no later than February 1.  For more information on submitting applications and supplemental items, check out our website www.moreheadstate.edu/craft-academy under Apply to the Academy.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office @ 606.783.5102 or email jl.stamper@moreheadstate.edu 

Dr. Charles Lindeman is now available to meet and provide therapeutic services @ SK to students with private insurance. If you are interested in your student participating in school-based therapy, contact Susan Back, 859-960-0227 or susan.back@kenton.kyschools.us for more information.

Step-Up is a summer internship program that offers 8 weeks of full-time research experience in a scientific lab. Selected from over 300 students nationwide, 100 will be awarded this opportunity to participate. There is a $2,200.00 stipend, a trip to Washington D.C. in August to present findings at the National Institute of Health and an educational experience that is invaluable.

Congratulations to Aaron Anderson, Daniel Kendall and Cathryn Wood as 2nd place state winners and 1st place regional winners in the 12-week Stock Market Game.    Each member will receive a $20 gift card, a certificate, and a medal.  There were 375 State teams and 79 regional teams. 

Congratulations to Alex Miller on her selection to the Northern Kentucky Select Band.  The NKY Select Band will perform in Greaves Hall at NKU on March 12.
