JUNIORS . . . the ACT is March 1 @ SK.  It's not too early to prepare!
 
Students interested in spending 14 days in China this summer shoud see Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 for the application and details. 

UPCOMING FUNDRAISER . . . The Lady Pioneer basketball team is sponsoring the 2nd Annual "Buckets for Brittany" Memorial Game on Monday, January 25 against Boone County.  This game and the associated events (including a silent auction and bake sale) will be a fundraiser for the SK Special Education Department.

SK's Adaptive Guard will be featured in a special performance between the JV and Varsity games.  Paul Daugherty, author of the best-selling book Uncomplicated Life, and his daughter Jillian will be special guests at the event (and will sign books).  Learn more about them at http://www.uncomplicatedlife/

Presale t-shirts will be sold by the team for the student body and community to wear to the game.  Please help support SK's Special Education Department and buy a shirt today! 
  
OPEN ENROLLMENT - SK will be accepting OPEN ENROLLMENT applications through January 15.  Applications will be dated and should there be a "numbers" issue, they will be considered for approval in date of receipt order.  Please be sure to complete the application, including the back side, and both a parent and the student need to sign. 
 
Applications will not be dated as received or accepted for consideration until the application is fully completed.  For questions, please call Peggy Wahn at 960-0100 during regular school hours.

TEAM UPDATES    
ACADEMIC TEAM UPDATE -- The academic team swept 3 matches against Covington Latin last week. Varsity won 46-14, JV 26-21 and freshmen 25-14.
 
The team received an invitation to the National Scholastic Championship in Chicago in June! Only 96 teams from around the country are invited. This is the 2nd straight year. Please congratulate Chelsea Russell, Sam Roberts, Emily Girard and Nicholas Griffey for making it happen.

GET INVOLVED!  SK Clubs, Groups & Athletics 

MUSICAL TRYOUTS  Musical auditions will be held this week, Sign-up sheets are outside of the chorus room (Room 161).  Students who are interested in auditioning should prepare a 1 minute monologue and a broadway-type song.

SPANISH CLUB will meet on Wednesday, January 20 in room 316.  All students are welcome and can see Mrs. Warner with any questions.

NHS will meet on Friday, February 5.  All fall service hours are due THIS FRIDAY to Mrs. Dukes in Room 293 or Mrs. Cross in Room 130.

STUDENT COUNCIL
 will meet the first and second Thursday of every month throughout the school year in the Library Media Center from 2:40 - 3:30. ALL grades are welcome.  See Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 if you have questions.
 
PIONEER PRIDE meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  New members are ALWAYS welcome.

GUITAR CLUB
will meet from 2:45-3:45 PM every last Wednesday of the month in the chorus room.  Anyone interested in playing or learning to play the guitar is welcome to attend.

ART CLUB meets on Mondays in the art room from 2:30-4 PM every other week.  Listen to the announcements for updates.  $5 dues are to be turned in at the meeting.

COUNSELING CORNER
 
The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics is accepting applications through February 1, 2016.
 
Students will need to submit their finalized application, 5 essay questions, 3 letters of recommendation, high school transcript and any qualifying ACT scores no later than February 1.  For more information on submitting applications and supplemental items, check out our website www.moreheadstate.edu/craft-academy under Apply to the Academy.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office @ 606.783.5102 or email jl.stamper@moreheadstate.edu 

Dr. Charles Lindeman is now available to meet and provide therapeutic services @ SK to students with private insurance. If you are interested in your student participating in school-based therapy, contact Susan Back, 859-960-0227 or susan.back@kenton.kyschools.us for more information.

Step-Up is a summer internship program that offers 8 weeks of full-time research experience in a scientific lab. Selected from over 300 students nationwide, 100 will be awarded this opportunity to participate. There is a $2,200.00 stipend, a trip to Washington D.C. in August to present findings at the National Institute of Health and an educational experience that is invaluable.

Mitchel Kreidenweis for passing MOS Certification for
Word Expert!!  This is a very difficult certification to obtain - requiring him to pass 2 certifications in Word Expert platforms. By passing the
Word Expert exam he has also earned Microsoft Master Certification!  To obtain this certification he had to pass 4 certifications, 1 at Expert Level.

Charity Harrier, art teacher, won two awards (including best overall) in the recent Enquirer turkey art contest for her Star War-themed creation.
