Congratulations to the varsity football team for defeating Highlands on Friday night!  This was the first time SK had defeated Highlands since 1974!  See related story here.

The varsity academic team opened the season with a 49-10 win over Cooper. Chelsea Russell and Emily Girard led with 9 points, followed by Sam Roberts with 8 and Nicholas Griffey with 2.
The first home match is Tuesday @ 3:30 PM against a tough Villa team.

Students may pick up a NO PASS / NO DRIVE  form in the attendance office during 5th or 6th period with teacher permission only
 
Parent notes, doctor notes, early dismissals and bus notes may be turned in at the half-door from 7-10:30 AM daily.  Please remind your students to turn in all notes to the attendance office.
 
This Week's Attendance Review of Procedures [EARLY DISMISSAL]
 
In the event that a student has an early dismissal from school:
  • On the day an early dismissal is required, the student should bring a note to the box outside of 215C when s/he arrives in the morning. This note should contain the student's first and last name printed, reason for the early dismissal, date of the dismissal, parent/guardian name printed and parent/guardian signature.
  • An early dismissal slip will be delivered to the student if permission is granted. This slip is to be shown to the teacher at the appropriate time, and the student must be signed out by a guardian in the main office on the yellow early dismissal form or, if they are a driver, sign themselves out in the main office on the yellow dismissal form.
  • Upon return to school, follow the procedure for any other absence as stated above for documentation.

Play Auditions for Charlotte's Web
Monday, 10.5 & Tuesday, 10.6 from  2:50-4:45 PM 
Prepare a one-minute monologue from the children's theatre genre. Monologues may also be from movies or original,
but should be appropriate for the play
.

Sign- up sheets outside Mrs. Mastin's classroom (214B) in five- minute increments. Be prepared to come to call backs the following week.
Performance dates are Jan 22, 23, 29, 30
Please do not audition if you are unavailable all of those dates.

SK Clubs, Groups & Athletics
 
ARCHERY  Practice begins Thursday, 10.1. Practices will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays thereafter unless otherwise planned. 
 
Interested in joining the gold-medalist WINTER GUARD? The team needs new members! Join us for a great opportunity to make new friends, develop new skills, and participate in competitions! Practices will be held after school on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays November-March. Contact Ms. Slusser in Room 209 for more details.
 
STUDENT COUNCIL will meet the first and second Thursday of every month throughout the school year in the Library Media Center from 2:40 - 3:30. ALL grades are welcome.  See Miss Hoerlein in Room 207 if you have questions.
 
GUITAR CLUB will meet from 2:45-3:45 PM every last Wednesday of the month in the chorus room.  Anyone interested in playing or learning to play the guitar is welcome to attend.

ART CLUB meets on Mondays in the art room from 2:30-4 PM every other week.  Listen to the announcements for updates.  $5 dues are to be turned in at the 9.28 meeting.

Do you enjoy fishing for competition?  See Mr. Archer in Room 105 for more information about joining the FISHING CLUB.

BOWLING TEAM will begin tryouts on 10.5 @ Bellwood Lanes in Newport on Waterworks Road.  Times are:  10.5 5-7 PM and 7-9 PM, 10.6 5-7 PM and 10.7 5-7 PM and 7-9 PM.  Practices begin on 10.12. For more information, email questions to Coach Hampton -- dhamp911@yahoo.com

Healthy Hands-Helping Hands Campaign
 
Who: Senior Class
What: Drive to collect anti-bacterial hand sanitizers and wipes for distribution
In SK classrooms
When: Beginning Monday, 9.28 through Thursday, 10.8
Where: Collected items can be turned in to Room 305 before or after school
Why: to better protect our students and staff against unwanted germs in the upcoming flu season
How: Simply purchase a hand sanitizer (or a few!) and turn in to your senior English teacher or Nurse Hon who will award the appropriate service hours (see below) on the SK Community Service form.
 
Service Hour Amounts Per Donation:
8 oz bottle = 30 minutes
16 oz bottle= 1 hour
24 oz. bottle= 2 hours
40 oz bottle= 3 hours
ANTI-BACTERIAL WIPES:
80-150 ct. box= 1 hour
Individual "car" pkg.= 30 minutes   
***No more than FIVE (5) hours total can be earned for any one service project****

PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

Available to the first 200 sophomores and juniors who sign up. 
Registration runs through 9.30.15. Register on totalregistration.net and the cost is $16.  This test is optional, but strongly encouraged for students who desire to do Upward Bound or the Governor's Scholar's Program. 

ASVAB  Career Exploration Program

Available to sophmores, juniors and seniors. Students can sign up in the guidance office. This test is optional.

Thomas More Presents - NaviGo College Prep Night
