New Teacher Feature:  ANGELA ZOELLER

[We will be introducing our new teachers weekly in Simon Says.]

ANGELA ZOELLER has joined the SK math department after recently teaching at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville.  She is originally from Bracken County.  Her husband, Rob, is a new teacher next-door at Kenton Elementary and coaches the women's soccer team.

"My favorite thing about teaching is seeing students' eyes light up when they finally 'get it,'" said Zoeller. "That will never get old!" She also added that she is in her 16th year of teaching math.

"I am excited to be a part of the Pioneer family in the math classroom," said Zoeller, "and cheering on our Lady Pioneers soccer team, and all of the other sports -- but especially the soccer team."

WELCOME TO SK, MRS. ZOELLER

McKenzie Lachmann 7th
Meridith Hiles 12th
Megan Buckner 34th
Anja Arlinghaus 48th

Men's Golf Update
The men's golf team improved their record to 4-3 with a win over Walton-Verona 172-200. Senior Michael Murray shot a personal best even par 36.  He has medaled in 6 of 7 matches.  Other notable scores were Bobby Cole and Bostin Richards with 45s and Matt Sprague and Bryson Starks with 46s.
SK Sweeps the President's Cup!
SK swept Scott to regain / keep possession of the President's cup!

The varsity men's team won in very dramatic fashion. Scott varsity boys soccer is the defending state runner-up and has held the cup for several years.  The SK men, however, played very well and won in the 2nd round of a shoot-out when the last shooter, junior Francesco Abbinante, buried a PK to seal the victory.  Senior Addision Edlebrock made a save on the previous Scott kicker to give SK the chance to seal the victory.

The women's JV and varsity also won to complete a sweep of the Scott Eagles.
Bowling Team Update
Bowling for the upcoming 2015-2016 season will begin tryouts on 10/1. More information will be out soon from Coach Hampton.

NORTHERN KENTUCKY TEEN COURT
2015-2016 PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

The Northern Kentucky Teen Court will be back in session on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 6 PM and is looking for local high school students to participate in this exciting program.  Sessions are held each Tuesday through April 19, 2016 at the Campbell County Courthouse [330 York Street; Newport].

A division of District Court, Teen Court enables local high school students from Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties to experience the wheels of justice first-hand.  Student participants serve in all roles of the court system - prosecuting attorney, defense attorney, and juror - with Campbell County District Judge Karen Thomas, Campbell County Circuit Court Judge Fred Stine, and local practicing attorneys presiding over the court proceedings.

Actual juvenile offenders are referred to the court for sentencing by a Teen Court Jury - a true jury of their peers - and represented and prosecuted by members of the Teen Court.  Students who participate in the Program will develop more sophisticated communication styles, as well as improved problem solving, critical thinking, and other valuable skills.

In an effort to avoid conflict with school activities, Teen Court training and court sessions are held in the evening.  Student participants are required to attend all six (6) training sessions, as well as the actual court sessions that occur a maximum of twice a month.

The time spent in Teen Court can be used to fulfill community service requirements and also helps to build an exciting and comprehensive resume for college applications.  There is no cost associated with participating in Teen Court.

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN TEEN COURT:

1)      Must be in grade 9 through 12, at least 13 years of age and not over 18 years of age;

2)      Must attend all six training sessions and the swearing in ceremony unless excused by Teen Court Coordinator;

3)      Must commit to an academic year of service starting in October and ending in April.

Please contact Campbell County Chief District Judge Karen Thomas's office at 292-6322 if you have any questions.
