Welcome back to school!   Hope you enjoyed the unexpected winter break . . .lots if information this week!

MAKE A VERY IMPORTANT DATE WITH ALICE . . .and don't be late!  
Believe in the impossible and attend one of the drama department performances of "Alice in Wonderland." February 26 & 27 @ 7 PM and February 28 @ 2 PM and 7 PM.  Admission is $5.
 
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION NIGHT IS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4
@ 6:30 PM. Parents of current 8th graders who plan to attend SK next school year are invited to an evening of self-guided tours, information tables and a presentation in the auditorium.

IMPORTANT CLASS SCHEDULING INFORMATION . . .
Scheduling materials for 2015-16 will be going out today during SKORE.  To access the scheduling thvideo from home, go to the SK Webpage, click on the link 2015-2016 scheduling video instructions.  The AM academy students will receive their scheduling material during 6th period.
  
Online requests need to be entered by Friday, February 27. The portal will be closing on March 2 in preparation for the Student Voice Survey.  Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, word processing is not required for graduation.  If students have questions, please have them write it on a piece of paper and send to the guidance department. 
 

Students and parents - The Student Portal on Infinite Campus will be closed from March 2 - March 27 while students complete the Student Voice Survey at school. The parent portal will remain open. If you need help accessing the parent portal please contact the guidance office.

 

All juniors will be taking the ACT test on Tuesday, March 3.   Please make sure students have a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and are present at school that day so they can be successful on the test.

 

The Youth Service Center will be having a dress and accessories drive for Cinderella's Closet the month of February. Please bring donations to room 130.

ACADEMIC TEAM ADVANCES TO STATE!  

The academic team advanced to the state tournament by finishing 2nd in quick recall.  SK defeated Holy Cross, Highlands and Dixie to advance.  Congratulations to Tristan Feinauer, Kyle Casson, Ashton Mallory, Chelsea Russell, Sam Roberts and Nolan Warning.

 

In written assessment, Kyle Casson advanced in both social studies and language arts and Tristan Feinauer advanced in science. Megan Grove advanced in composition.

 

The Future Problem Solving team advanced to state by finishing 2nd. Team members are Katie Taylor, Kathryn Johnson, Hayley Mitchell, Hanna Howard, Alsatia Corwin, Meghan Snellings, Kelly Pohlman and Allie Taylor.  

GOVERNOR'S SCHOLARS PROGRAM

 

Congratulations to the following students who will represent Kenton County as Governor's Scholars Program nominees at the state level competition:

Outdoor conditioning and practice begins Monday, March 2 @ 2:45-4:15. Bring running and court shoes, raquet, hoodie and water bottle.  Other days during the week, conditioning will begin @ 4 PM after women's practice and end @ 5:45 PM.  No tennis equipment?  No worries.  We want you to TRY tennis -- and will provide a racquet.

 

Open to any male 7th grade and up.  Must have a physical on file from another sport this year or bring signed form on the first day.  Need more information?  There will be a parent meeting on Thursday, February 26 @ 7 PM in the classroom by the gym doors or contact Coach Carrigan @ 859.391.8736 or email him @ sean.carrigan@campbell.kyschools.us

A rising junior at a Kentucky high school will win a $500 scholarship and a photo shoot at his or her school through the "Promote Your School" scholarship contest, sponsored by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).  

To enter, the student must submit an essay about one of these subjects:

  • What my aspiration for my generation is.
  • How I am preparing for my future.
  • How my education plans will affect my community.
  • What a middle school student should do in high school to prepare for college.

The essay must be no more than 200 words long and cannot mention the student's name, school, county or community. The essay topic must be shown at the top of the page. The student's name, address and high school must be listed at the bottom of the essay. The student must be a junior during the 2015-16 school year. To enter, mail your essay to KHEAA Publications, P.O. Box 798, Frankfort, KY 40602. You also may e-mail your essay to publications@kheaa.com or fax it to (502) 696-7574. The winner will be chosen by a committee of KHEAA employees. The deadline for submissions is May 31. Photos from the winning school will be used in KHEAA publications and on KHEAA websites.

Freshman-Sophomore Dance

The Freshman Sophomore Dance will be Thursday, March 12 @ SK from 8-11 PM. The theme is "A Starry Night."
Tickets will go on pre-sale during lunch for $10 from Tuesday, March 3 - Tuesday, March 10.
 

If students plan to bring a high school guest from another school, they can pick up the guest form outside room 207. The dance is semi-formal. See Miss Hoerlein or Miss Lewis with any questions.

NEED SERVICE HOURS?  St. Patrick Church on Mills Road in Independence needs assistance during the Lenten season with the Friday fish fry. 
Shifts begin at 4 PM and conclude through clean-up.  Hours can be split.

The Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter 

2015 Scholarship Program

 

The Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter announces its 2015 Scholarship Program for Children and Spouses of U.S. Army Soldiers in the Global War on Terrorism,  Army Soldiers and Army Veterans who are currently serving or have served in the Global War on Terrorism, and Family Members of AUSA Members who belong to the Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter in that priority. Also priority is given to residents of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.  $1,500 scholarships will be awarded for the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarship program is available to first-time freshman and returning college students. The scholarship can be used for tuition and fees, and room and board.
