CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS


SPANISH CLUB:  Anyone wanting to purchase a SPANISH CLUB t-shirt should pay $13 to his or her Spanish teacher before Friday. 


 

The STUDENT COUNCIL will now be meeting twice a month on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays of each month in library.

Varsity Football Update
footballplayoffsseniors The Pioneers defeated Madison Central 40-11 on Friday.

The team travels to Lexington Lafayette on Friday for the
2nd round of post-season play.  The game is at 7:30 PM.
 
Cross Country Update

Congratulations to the cross country teams on a great year.  This weekend at the State Meet, the girls finished 11thoverall. Individually:

The girls had a great season and almost the entire team is returning next year.

 

Owen Powell also finished out a great career this weekend finishing 116th.  

Marching Band Update

Congratulations to the SK Marching Band on their two outstanding performances this past Saturday at the Mid-States Marching Band Championships at Northmont High School.  The band placed 

6th with their prelims performance which qualified the band to participate in the finals competition on Saturday night. 

The Marching Band moved up one spot in the finals competition to finish in 5th place overall (out of 20 bands).  The band had an outstanding performance and scored a season high 75.6.  The percussion scored the highest they ever have in competition with a 181 out of 200. 

Congratulations to the Marching Pioneers, who have had a tremendous season and represented the school well all season!
Archery Team Update

SK's Archery Team had several winners at the Beechwood Archery Tournament on Saturday.

 

The team won 1st place with a score of 3207.

Canned Food Drive

The Student Council will be hosting the canned food drive next week.  We will collect during SKORE and have two types of competitions. One SKORE class will win for the most canned goods. Another SKORE class will win for creating the best design from their cans.

 

SKORE classes will be judged by Student Council on Friday, November 14.  Canned food items go to Action Ministries.

$500 Scholarship Opportunity

gold-tiara.jpg The 4th Annual Miss Independence Pageant will be held on Friday, December 5.


Contestants must be young women between the ages of 16 and 21 and reside in Independence or attend high school in Independence or have graduated from an Independence high school.

This event is sponsored by the Independence Business Association (IBA) and the City of Independence. Current prizes include a $500 scholarship, crowns and sashes, cash prizes and trophies and a pageant tote with products from local businesses. Event profits will benefit the SK Youth Service Center.

The WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM is having a LaRosa's Fundraiser on Sunday, November 30 from 4-9 PM. A portion of your total bill will be donated back to the team. You must present a flyer to your waiter. The girls will be there passing out flyers all night. Questions, please contact Ms. Wendeln.


 

The ARCHERY TEAM will host a Skyline Fundraiser night on Tuesday, November 11 from 5 - 8 PM at the Independence location.  Help support the archery team by dining with the them on Tuesday.  Click here for the flyer.

Academic Team Update

The academic team competed in the JV Challenge on Saturday.

 

The quick recall defeated Covington Latin, Highlands, Bishop Brossart and Pendleton Co. before losing in the championship. Congratulations to Chelsea Russell, Sam Roberts, Aaron Anderson, Nicholas Griffey, David Chai, Brooke Jones and Victor Papyshev for their 2nd-place finish.

 

The following students brought home medals in written assessment:

From the Counseling Office . . .

 

Piner Elementary's Nature Explore group is in need of volunteers to assist in the after school club. If interested stop in the guidance department for information. 

 

Any senior or junior who is interested in the 2015 United States Senate Youth Program can complete an application with Ms. Back in the guidance office. This programs allows two students from each state a $5,000 college scholarship and an all expensive paid trip to Washington, DC to observe the US Senate in action. Applications must be postmarked by November 15.  

 

ASVAB TEST RESULTS ARE IN . . . see Mrs. Hickey for your results during SKORE on Monday or Wednesday.

 

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  SK's College & Career Fair will be 11/13 from 5-8 PM.


Northern Kentucky Overture Award Competition: Dancing, Music, Vocal, Art, Creative Writing Overture Awards:  
Students interested in participating in the Northern Kentucky Overture Award Competition should contact Mr. Michael Laughlin in the Guidance Office.
