Fox Valley Marathon Brings Downtown Street Closures

Several downtown Geneva streets will be closed to traffic early Sunday, Sept. 18 to accommodate the annual Fox Valley Marathon race course.

The marathon begins in St. Charles and heads south into Geneva, impacting downtown streets and main arterial roads between 7 and 9 a.m., including State Street, Route 31, Third Street and more.

IDOT Rte 38 Sidewalk Work Starts Soon 



The Illinois Department of Transportation will be removing and replacing non-compliant ADA sidewalk ramps and curbs along Route 38 this fall in seven communities, including Geneva.

Construction is scheduled to take place at most West State Street intersections between Fourth Street and Bricher Road from Monday, Sept. 26 to Friday, Oct. 14. The project will require the closing of sidewalks and temporary traffic lane closures.

Hydrant Flushing Begins In September

 
The City of Geneva will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the community for a four-week period starting Monday, Sept. 26 as part of an ongoing maintenance program.

Hydrants will be flushed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. The water is safe to drink, but residents are encouraged to let their faucets run for a few minutes if they notice any discoloration.

Candidate Election Guide Now Available

Geneva residents interested in running for a seat on the City Council in 2017 can find a candidate guide posted on the City's website.

The guide provides election information on how to file for candidacy, as well as all required forms. The positions for mayor, city clerk, treasurer as well as one seat in Wards 1 through 5 are up for election.

City Flag Lowered In Memory Of Hunter Shodeen
The Geneva City flag outside City Hall has been lowered to half-staff in memory of Hunter Shodeen, 26, who passed away Sept. 10.

The City would like to express its sympathies to the Shodeen family on their loss. The flag will remain at half-staff until evening Monday, Sept. 19, according to Mayor Kevin Burns.

Natural Resources Committee Hosting River Clean-up Day


Geneva's Natural Resources Committee will be hosting a Fox River clean-up day from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 25. Volunteers can meet at Island Park at the spillway near the train trestle bridge.

The NRC will provide bags, water and hand sanitizer, and the group will have at least one canoe to help move garbage across the river. Extra canoes would be helpful.
